IBM ThinkPad Dock

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Mon May 28, 2012 11:13 pm

I had this dock for years and This was probably the best dock to buy for the IBM ThinkPad, "Type: 2631" It came with a UltraBay port for CD Drives/HDD/Floppy ect., VGA, DVI, 2 USB Ports, Serial, Printer, 2 PCMICA, 56K Modem, Ethernet, (560-600 External Floppy Drive Port), Headphone in/out, PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard ports and even 1 PCI slot. Even the AC power adapter is built in, so no AC Adapter.

I was messing with this and only the T20-T30-R30-X20-X30 work with it. I was woundering if any tech people cameup with an adapter to fit ever ThinkPad model on this through their original dock port? Kinda what the people that mess with Retro Games do. This would be nice to use for my IBM ThinkPad 560X.

Hi,

I am an ex-Thinkpad 560X/Z user and avid Docking Station user myself :)
This particular model appears limited because of its ultraportable nature

However, are you aware of the Port Replicator with advanced Etherjet (p/n 05K4872)?
I have used it myself and was pretty satisfied with it, although not nearly as complete as the 2631 -

However, it features the following ports :
1 x Ethernet RJ-45 10/100-Base-T
2 x PCMCIA Type-III
1 x Floppy connector
1 x VGA out (15-pin)
1 x Parallel out (25-pin)
1 x serial out (9-pin)
1 x Game/Midi out (15-pin)
1 x Audio in
1 x Audio out
2 x PS/2 (mouse and keyboard)
1 x USB

A couple of years back, I used the PCMCIA ports to extend the PCI bus to a Mobility Electronics Easidock 5000, where I could add more PCI card, hard and optical drives... the works.
I had not to suffer because of the underequipment (by default) of my Thinkpad 560X and Z

Good thing was this port replicator was also useable with the Thinkpad 570 and its media slice, which I also used it with.

Fact is, I have every single docking station IBM put out (even the elusive and not very useful 3550), so feel free if you have any question :)

Hope this helps,
Joscelyn

Just got a brand new dock and its like a desktop, probably one of IBM's biggest docks for ThinkPad. Type: 3547-003
It is used for the IBM ThinkPad 760, 770 and 600 with required these models port replicator to fit for this. I think this dock would be great if any one of my IBM ThinkPads or lenovo ThinkPad could dock to this. Is basicaly a desktop with the laptop as its motherboard. It can handle a IDE HDD or a IDE CD/RW/DVD-ROM drive along with IBM's ultrabay 2000 drives. 3 PCI slots and 2 PCMCIA slots
