do not buy thinkpad hardware from AMZNTECH

#1 Post by gervin23 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 11:41 pm

I thought I'd make others aware I just got ripped off by http://www.amazon.com/shops/AMZNTECH. I ordered a T60p fan/heatsink assembly and it turned out to not seat properly. A few days of troubleshooting lead me to realize it's not an official replacement. It looks almost exactly the same but there are subtle differences (negative differences) between what that guy ships and the original. I ended up pulling the new fan out and placing into the old heatsink. Don't buy anything from this guy, he has badly reproduced products.

i have learned that some vendors on amazon do not live up to the amazon reputation..

also, i rabn into a scam (a $25k machine for $6k) where the scammer wanted me to pay using amazon payments..

so, one must realize that there is no "free lunch" and when something looks too good to be true, its not..

same with X300 batteries on amazon and all over ebay..
low priced knockoff's..

can you not make the vendor take it back and refund your $$..?

welcome to the forum and thanks for the warning..

@ gervin23 :

Welcome once again to the Forum :)

I checked the Amazon link you provided. There are no products currently listed in that seller's storefront. I would like to ask what was the wording in the original listing? Did they claim it was a "Genuine I.B.M.", "Genuine Lenovo", "O.E.M." or an "Original" part? If they didn't then... But if they did claim it was a Genuine part, or presented a picture of a Genuine T60/p fan/heatsink showing a label which has an "FRU" part number on it, then just contact Amazon and make it clear the item was not as described. They usually adhere to a pretty fair return policy/ resolution process.

May I ask what is the 7-digit type/model # on the back of your laptop, to the left of the S/N (Serial Number)? If you decide to return that one and need the real deal, a Genuine Lenovo fan/heatsink FRU 41W6407, I have it brand new here:

FS: Memory,Drives,Docks,KB,WIFI,Battery,AC,SXGA+ LCD
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=97374

That model will fit most 14.1" and 15" standard T60P machines. If you have a widescreen that requires the other kind of fan, I have that also, used, fully tested, freshly cleaned and lubricated. You can email me for more details (see signature below).

I also have DVD Burners, hard drives, Genuine New and used batteries, RAM, and even Brand New SXGA+ IPS Flexview screens for the 15" models. You'll find it much safer/wiser to buy genuine T60P parts from myself and other trusted sellers on the Forum than "other places" ...

Have a good day,
Daniel.

an axe to grind ???

#4 Post by Thinkpad Lover » Sat Jul 28, 2012 3:19 am

Original Poster (OP) has had a longgggg time to respond. I don't like "hit and run" posts. Makes me feel like people * may* have "an axe to grind" *** and *may* be using the Forum just to lash out at someone. Then they disappear, and probably post the same rhetoric on many other Forums.

I have bought thousands of dollars worth of merchandise from Amazon. And, as everyone knows, I have sold many items here on the Thinkpad Forum. Spending much time in the role of buyer as well as seller, I would like to encourage us to get all the facts before we jump to hasty conclusions in buyer/seller disputes such as this .

We don't have all the facts here, the OP has not responded. And of course Amazon seller "AMZNTECH" has not had a chance to respond. I have never bought anything from Amazon seller AZMNTECH. I don't personally know either the buyer ("gervin23") or seller ("AMZNTECH"). I have nothing personal to gain or to lose, but, as a Christian, follow the Biblical exhortation to "make fair judgments."

Sometimes people want to buy cheap, "replacement" parts for a fraction of what a Genuine part would cost, and expect it to fit and work as perfectly as the Genuine, Original O.E.M. part. When it doesn't, they turn against the seller with a vengeance. So once again, if the OP bought a replacement part, then hey... But if he was promised a Genuine part and received a cheap knock-off, then that's not fair. We don't know the wording of the original listing so we shouldn't make an uninformed judgment. For all we know AMZNTECH could be a good overall seller. As I said above,

OP is welcome to follow-up and prove his case, if he can. Otherwise, let us refrain from harsh and hasty judgments against AMZNTECH or anyone else for that matter.

*** " an axe to grind " :

As a boy, Benjamin Franklin was sharpening tools in his father’s yard when a stranger carrying an axe came by and praised the boy on how good he was with the grindstone. He then asked Franklin if he would show him how it would work on his own axe. Once his axe was sharpened, the stranger simply laughed and walked away, giving young Franklin a valuable lesson about people with “an axe to grind.”

... We say that someone with a hidden agenda (hidden motives, secret reasons for what they are doing)
has “an axe to grind."

@BillMorrow, Thanks for the info. I opted not to return the product because the delivery took weeks, I was impatient, I love hacking hardware, and noticed the fan was actually of decent quality so swapped heatsinks and to this day it's running great. If you have a T60 as I do and want to avoid at least one Amazon seller selling batteries from the infamous 2006 recall don't hesitate to PM me. Cheers.

@Temetka

That thread was edited by Daniel (Thinkpad Lover) on August 7, 2012 to say he had no more items for sale, just before he got booted off the site. The thread was then moved out of public view which results in the "you are not authorized" message. If you missed the story, it can be viewed starting here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 49#p683049
