USB thumb drive dead?

#1 Post by npish » Wed Aug 29, 2012 2:11 am

I have Kingston D101 G2 16GB USB thumb drive that seems to have crapped out on me-- on my W520 Windows 7 machine, upon plugging in the thumb drive, explorer locks up for a bit and after a minute or so a dialog box appears saying that the drive needs to be formatted in order to be used; I then try to format and everything pretty much locks up until I remove the drive. I attempted to use TestDisk and the app can't even detect a partition.

Ultimately, the data on the drive is not so much my concern as attempting to resuscitate it for future use. I don't have much experience in this department, so I'm wondering if there's a good tool out there to use as a last resort for making the drive usable again? Hate to just discard it without at least trying... thanks for any feedback.
