Stripped thinkpad screw

#1 Post by gaidensensei » Sat Dec 22, 2012 4:09 pm

A thinkpad (t61) that I'm working on has one stripped screw beyond belief. It's in a tricky spot, right next to the LCD.
I've got both the top and back to work with. It appears to be one of those 3-5mm screws.

Couple of photos for reference:

I don't want to run the hassle of having to order a new bezel frame and wait several weeks for it, especially if it is overseas in China or some ubiquitous location.

Any suggestions or options folks may have :?:

Dremel with press workstation and a the smallest drill (2-3mm-ish). Worked for me.

I used these successfully on another forum members X61 with a stripped screw of similar size.

My vote's for this. I've used a Dremel with hardened bits to drill out / cut off damaged screws for a number of delicate electronic devices (though not ThinkPads specifically.)
Need help with Linux or FreeBSD? Catch me on IRC: I'm ThinkRob on FreeNode and EFnet.
