Cheap Quadro FX5800 on ebay
Cheap Quadro FX5800 on ebay
Recently I just got an upgrade for my office's desktop system using Quadro 600
And then I did some benchmarking tests using Cinebench and I saw that Quadro FX5800 sits at the top list.
I checked on ebay and found some cheap Quadro FX5800s, so now my question is :
"are those really Quadro FX5800 cards? or just an OEM version?"
maybe someone in here have the experience of buying high-end professional video card from ebay that would like to share them with me.

Re: Cheap Quadro FX5800 on ebay
PM me a link? It's hard to tell without investigating the seller in question a bit.
Back in the day, people would flash GeForces with a Quadro BIOS, unlocking all the features of a Quadro on the much cheaper consumer hardware. That's not necessarily a bad thing, but you certainly wouldn't be able to get any official support on the board should problems arise.
I'm not sure how common this practice is these days, though.

Oh yeah, the links, I forgot about it
Here's the one I consider "cheap"

and this one is "really not cheap"

Re: Cheap Quadro FX5800 on ebay
I don't have any significant experiences of buying extremely expensive video hardware on ebay, but I have bought a lot of equipment from different sellers and I use ebay quite extensively.
It looks like both sellers are legitimate. The seller on the cheap Quadro FX 5800 you've listed appears to have some entries on Quadros he's already sold. The buyers look legitimate as well, and not fabricated for feedback.
The reason there's such a price difference between the two is probably because the two sellers are in completely different markets, despite the fact that they happen to have the same card for sale. If you look at the seller who's selling the Quadro for over $3k, you'll note he's also selling a variety of professional video capture and cinema hardware. He's seasoned to a market of much more higher-priced and expensive equipment. You'll also note he hasn't sold a single one of his Quadro cards.
The one who's selling the card for cheaper probably got a bulk of the cards, or somehow got a hold of them for cheap. And isn't outrageously overpricing them. That's a very impressive card as well to have for that sort of money.
But I'd also like to put in some extra advice... if that's your price bracket, and you're looking for monster power, I would move up from the Quadro FX 5800 to the newer and more powerful Quadro 5000. I've found one here for $850:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/NVIDIA-Quadro-5 ... 417092444f
^^ On looking at the seller, it looks like those cards are going fast
Even the Quadro 4000, sort of the more docile version of the 5000 I put in above, is still more powerful than the Quadro FX 5800 and would be cheaper.

Trying my hardest to collect Thinkpads, but college and being broke kinda gets in the way. However...

The reason why I choose Quadro FX5800, because of its 4GB VRAM
Currently I'm using Quadro 600 and old GeForce 9600GT on Z77 motherboard ...
In my 3D CAD/CAM software, Quadro 600 cannot load 3D drawing more than 300MB
If I load a 3D drawing more than 300MB, a pop-up message will come up, telling me that "Not enough memory" .. I'm using i5 3330, 8GB memory. 120GB SSD, though
My purpose is to switch current Quadro 600 with Quadro FX5800, and hand over Quadro 600 to my junior engineer who is still using gaming card on older system

Re: Cheap Quadro FX5800 on ebay
Ah I see. That is kinda smart actually. In the little time that I've used CAD software, I've forgotten that memory is pretty critical. lol.
I use my graphics hardware mostly for OpenGL and model loading when I am testing software. I don't make the models, I just use them(at least for now. I might take a 3D Art class...!) so my graphics hardware doesn't have to be too demanding.
I would also note that if it's memory you're looking for, you could get the Quadro 6000, which is the FX 5800's younger equivalent with newer architecture... and that is monstrously powerful compared to the 5000 and the 4000, let alone the FX 5800, but that's... quite a bit out of your price bracket I imagine.
The FX 5800 by itself does look pretty tasty. I think you've got a game plan set there.

Re: Cheap Quadro FX5800 on ebay
Medessec,
the price bracket indeed is my limitation
FX5800 would be enough for me, more than enough, since I'm using old 3D CAD software from 2009
First Quadro FX5800 ... next I will build a system using Opteron 6200 series (and how will I bring that system to Indonesia without paying high custom tax
)
Thank you for all your advice, Medessec
I really appreciate them *thumbs up
I rest my case now
