IBM NetVista X40 6643-13U Max RAM

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Sun Feb 17, 2013 4:31 pm

I have the IBM NetVista 6643-13U and from what I found online "Thought 1GB would be max" the max RAM for this is 512MB. But from what Windows XP is telling me I have 624MB of RAM installed. So I have 112MB somewhere or can this PC handle up to 1GB or 1.5GB like my NetVista M41 can?

Try it.
Most laptop descriptions came out when the max. RAM at that moment was lower than what size modules were manufactured afterwards.

This computer has two RAM slots and takes PC133 modules. So, you probably have one 512MB stick and one 128MB stick inside this thing. Seems like you can replace the 128MB stick with a 512MB one for a total of 1GB. Why don't you move one of your M41's 512MB modules into this X40 and see what happens?

I ran a DirectX check on my PC and seen that the Bios version is 1.00. I tryed to find a new bios version but can only find on lenovo 8... and not 6... models. I want to max the PC as much as I can. Im just using this for old games and old emulator games. Nothing too fancey. I still havnt checked to see if I can fit 2 512MB sticks yet. Was going to get a 32GB SSD for it too. The HDD "Original" sounds like its about to go in the next few years anyway. Can here the old PC startup.
