I'm about to rebuild my home server and was seriously thinking about using an SSD for the boot drive just like everything else in our house, but after buying a caching controller and everything else, I started feeling a little resistant to the thought of it. Then I realized that I actually have a low use first gen. Seagate Momentus XT drive and thought that maybe that might be a good candidate for that.
Does anyone have any experience or just thoughts on this?

Re: Momentus XT
I use 3 of the 500 GB XT. I like them. Not as fast as a SSD but is much faster than a 7200 rpm spinner. The extra capacity is nice. For what you purpose on using it for, I think it would work great.
