You can get the 512k upgrade, the 1mb Pro upgrade or the Palm III upgrade that gives you flash and IR capability, the III upgrade can also support OS 4.1. You can also take the memory card out of any Pilot 1000, 5000, Personal or Pro and use it in your Pilot. The only thing that separated the Pilot 1000 and 5000 is the memory card it shipped with and the same goes for the Pro and Personal. If I'm not mistaken, there was also an upgrade made by TRG called the SuperPilot that gave you 8mb RAM and Palm OS 3.
The great thing about the Pilot and Palm Pilot line of PDA's is that the folks who made them took into consideration that the device would be obsolete the next year and made it easy to upgrade. I wish companies would do that nowadays with current products.
