Windows 7 Service Pack not installing

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Tue Jul 09, 2013 1:11 pm

I had Windows 7 installed on my SSD for a few months now and just let it update its self. Everytime I go to boot Windows, It always comes to the installing Service Pack and takes 10 mins every time to reach 10% and then says Failure installing service pack reverting back install and takes another 10min of my time, and then restarts and lets me boot to desktop after that. Its been doing this for 3 months and getting annoying now, and fails everytime that I just put my computer in Sleep mode to fast boot.

It sounds like your installation of SP1 has got its knickers in a twist. I'd be inclined to save data since the first installation and the do a restore to a date before you first installed SP1. Then try it again.
If that doesn't work then let us know.

Install Windows Updates - KB2454826 and KB2533552.

Then, install Windows 7 SP1

------------------------------------------------------------------------
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=101643
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2505743
says to have Windows Update check for KB2454826, KB2534366, KB2533552

KB2454826 - improved graphics, enhanced printing XPS to GDI, and improved Media foundation
Note - this update may cause D2D related programs (e.g. Windows Live Mail) on machines using Intel integrated graphics with device driver igdkmd32.sys or igdkmd64.sys versions between 8.15.10.2100 ?? and 8.15.10.2141. See KB2505524 for specific details.

KB2505524 - corrects "0xC000009A" error during SP1 install when more than 10 Windows 7 language packs are installed.

KB2533552 - corrects "0xC0000034" error during SP1 install when other Windows Updates have occurred before computer has restarted.

I ran Windows Update ("Check for updates but le me choose whether to download and install them") It installed KB2454826 and KB2533552.

Installing from a disc with sp1 integrated would be the best option, but if you don't want to do a fresh install, then bob's advice should work.

Well I downloaded both of the files and Windows says both are already installed. I did a disc cleanup, disc defrag, and even disabled Firewall. Still Fails at 9%-10%

Why in the name of {Deity} would you disable the firewall????

Turn it back on. NOW.

Secondly, try the steps listed in the kb article listed below:

Well I tryed cleaning the SSD drive and got 8GB free space and did a disk cleanup and cookies, defrag and Clicked on Windows Update from the start menu. Its the only update on the list now, so I click install and it installs and says Service Pack installed successfuly, Click to restart your computer. I restart and loads up to the Windows 7 Welcome screen with it saying Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1, I still keeps getting to 9% to 12% and then says Failuere installing service pack, reverting changes. what is the bob link? And I downloaded both of those drivers and they are both installed. I just keep my desktop in sleep mode when not using it since everytime I boot it will keep trying to install to fail and that takes atleast 20min of my time away.

Please don't say that you defragged the SSD...

At this point all I can suggest is that you back up your data and re-install Windows 7. Preferably from a disc with Service Pack 1 already on it.

Don't know if it is of any use, but I once ran into the same problem with one of the Vista Service Packs, don't remember if it was 1 or 2. I ended up downloading the SP directly from Microsofts website, and didn't use the one that Windows Update brought me. That installed just fine, and the non-working update in Windows Update disappeared.
