#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Wed Dec 25, 2013 10:36 pm

That stuff is located in signons.sqlite and key3.db, in your Firefox profile.
It might still be there on the 'old' Windows install.
There are programs to export that data, but I wouldn't trust them! What if they "call home"?

Strange behaviour, I can't see a reason why FF would loose all saved data just because of a power out. One theory that comes to mind is that FF for some reason - such as some crash'n restore to default mechanism - decided to create a new profile for you.

Try/check this:

1. Open Firefox
2. Go to the Help dropdown menu (press Alt to make the menu appear if need be)
3. Choose "Error search information" (directly translated from my Swedish UI, but something of that meaning)
4. Locate the button Open folder next to "Profile folder" and press it
5. Go one step up from that folder and to the folder ...\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

If you haven't messed around with profiles in Firefox there should be only one and if there's two then chances are FF set you up with a new and empty one. In the best of worlds I would now also know how to change the profile back, but since I've never used the feature I can't help. Google is obviously your friend for that.

Yeah, I would want to know they're from a very reliable source. Moving profiles from one computer to another is however not hard at all. I've done it several times and the longest used profile has been with me at least 4-5 years, over at least three different OS installs and god knows how many FF versions (so it seems to work and be stable).

Here's how to do it (in case someone stops by):

1. Follow step 1-4 above
2. Copy the entire content of the folder (NOT the folder itself) to a storage of choice
3. Run Firefox on the destination machine a first time, then follow step 1-4 again
4. Delete everything in the profile folder
5. Copy content from step 2 into the now empty folder
6. Voila! Everything migrated, bookmarks, history, passwords, extensions, the works (maybe even cookies, dunno)

Above is a good way if one wants to do regular backups of FF settings and such. Another good way is of course to use the built in sync feature.
