Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapters

Just a quick question, would something like this adapter work with a ThinkPad L440?

I know it says it's for Apple, but it doesn't look it will only work on Apple devices. I've looked on eBay and Amazon and they all say they're for Apple Macs.

The reason I ask is because the L440 doesn't have an HDMI port, but it does have a Mini DisplayPort. Most of the devices which I may hook this laptop up to (TVs, projectors, my 24" monitor etc) all run on HDMI, so if I were to connect the L440 to any sort of HDMI external display, would one of those adapters work?

It says on that page that it: "is also compatible with PCs". No guarantee though. I bought a no-name (full size) Display Port to HDMI adapter for my X220 at Amazon.com that did not pass audio. Had to buy an adapter from a different manufacturer for it to work as advertised. FYI, the Display Port adapter that worked with my X220 was made by Monoprice.

Seems to carry audio and video. People have been using it with the Surface Pro without problems.
