What's causing this LCD issue? (Dark spots that come and go)

#1 Post by pianowizard » Sat Feb 01, 2014 11:58 am

I have a Sony X Series laptop that I bought about a year and a half ago. When I first received it, it had two penny-sized black spots but over 2 to 3 months they became smaller. But one day, the laptop was subject to shock (just me running across the street while carrying the laptop) and both spots got much bigger, and additional spots appeared as well. But once again, they shrank slowly over the next several months. A couple weeks ago, I again shook the laptop a bit too strong and all the spots returned. We are talking very dark spots, not just faint pressure marks. And all of them are near the top of the screen.

What could be causing them? Do you think they can be fixed easily? I've never used this laptop much anyway because the crammed keyboard is extremely uncomfortable to type on, but it would be nice to fix this issue so I can sell it for a better price. Thanks in advance for any insight anyone might have.

The screen is broken due to physical damage, you can't fix it , you'd need to replace the display to get rid of it. The reason why these black spots appear is because the screen is cracked and the edges of the crack press on the pixels which in turn react to it in this way (I don't know what exactly happens to them technically).

I had this happening to my previous laptop too, it kind of looked like a submarine:

There was a fellow who removed those black bars from a flat screen TV on YouTube. His procedure was kinda crazy. He smacked the TV screen with a bat and the top of the unit.
It brought back the picture, but I think your issue are dead pixels...
