I doubt it.

DC2 is more than just a screen. It's an entire setup, and GPU is a very important part of it.

Could it be hacked?

IDK.

The very thought of possibly blowing the electronics/converter part of a $800+ LCD setup had prevented me from pursuing an interesting idea I had at one time...

Like Medessec, all the 1920x1200 screens that I have seen, including both 15.4" and 17.0" ones, have ranged from decent to excellent. I am satisfied with my 8740w's TN panel, but if you are very picky, you may find it unacceptable, so I can't guarantee anything! FYI, while looking up the part number of this TN panel, I came across a forum where someone claimed that the 17" MacBook Pro used the exact same panel. Assuming that person was correct, this gives you an idea of how good this panel is.

If you are referring to this for-sale thread, it was the 8710w that he was selling: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... w=previous

Thanks for the feedback! I can stop then chasing DC2 panels, they were very expensive anyway so my bank account will be happy.

Thanks PW/Medessec, I'm not so picky with screens, so I will check for standard TN panels, again, my bank account will be happy since normal WUXGA panels seem affordable though...

I would almost agree...one notable exception being one Samsung WUXGA model found on T61p and W500...gawdawful.

I like 17" MacBooks...and am not really an Apple guy. But there is something about them that I find attractive. Screens were really nice for TN, no questions asked.

As for 8740W...

DC 2 panel is one of those things that one may wish they had never experienced. We had one here for about 3-4 weeks until my wife decided to send it back since she absolutely hated the keyboard. But the screen was OMG gorgeous.

Now, if I hadn't seen that one, I'd probably be OK with the standard TN WUXGA panel myself...but alas, I have...
