Is it too late for a Treo 650?

#1 Post by nowstime » Thu May 19, 2005 1:04 am

Hi~

Planning to get a smart phone...

And seems like Treo has the best design and color...Also checked out the Samsung i700 and heard that i730 is coming out pretty soon...

Palm or Windows doesn't really matter but used Clie before...so I guess I'm a bit used to Palm better than Windows...

Any users that can tell me if the Treo 650 is still worth it? And if so, which provider has the best plan?

Thanks in advance...

Have you though about a SymbianOS unit?

I had a Treo 650 and moved to an AudioVox 6600. I really loved the Treo form factor and the screen is also excellent. In the end, I leaned towards the 6600 because I allready had a sizeable investment in software for the ppc platform...and because the bigger screen size on the 6600 was more pleasant for watching movies.

If you don't allready have a bunch of software for either platform...and if you aren't planning on doing a lot of movie watching...the Treo is and excellent choice, especially with the recent patches to fix some of the early memory issues with the Treo. I had mine before these patches were released and still had no problem with it (beyone the normal pesky stuff that seems to be present in many hybrid devices.)

As for service, if you are heavy on the data side, no one comes close to Sprint pricing wise. Their coverage isn't the best in the industry and their customer service doesn't have many fans (although I have always had good experiences with them) but cost wise they can't be beat for data. One consideration, however, is hi-speed access. Verizon's is out now with a pretty big footprint...Sprint's is just rolling out and won't be competitive with Verizon (coverage wise) until the 4th quarter of this year. At, present, Sprint EVDO is only available in some airports and a very small area of Kansas City (Sprints HQ city). If it weren't for the cost factor, I would switch to Verizon most likely...but I am staying with Sprint due to the more economical data plans.

By the way, the Samsungs you mentioned are HIGHLY anticipated and are getting very very good early reviews. If Sprint gets the Sammy, I would switch from the 6600 right away...although early information seems to support only Verizon getting it right away.
