Whats this answer?

#1 Post by jronald » Sun Jun 22, 2014 10:02 am

Your store’s average basket (transaction) size for the month of March was $11.50 and you believe the average basket size will remain the same for your store in April. One of your hourly employees had an average basket size of $9.00 for the month of March and averaged 125 transactions per shift. If the same employee’s average basket size was $9.00 for the first two weeks of April but improved to $11.00 for the second two weeks of April, her sales will now be how much lower than the average for your store?

By my calculation, assuming the sales $-volume will stay the same:
~63 transactions @ $9 in first half
~51 transactions @ $11 in 2nd half
She getting lazy?

How do you figure that without knowing how many shifts total she worked?

Above I looked at the sales volume in dollars, assuming it would stay the same.
If the number of transactions stays the same, it's different (always per shift):
Shop average: 125 trx. X $11.50 = $1437.50
Employee:
~63 trx. @ $9 = $567
~63 trx. @ 11 = $693
Total 126 TRX= $1260 minus shop avg. 1437.50 = -$177.50 less turnover than avg.

The smallest answer was -$1000.00.
It went up from there. I wished I had copied the answers, but Im positive nothing was less than a grand.

I dont know, that was the issue all along. My wife and I discussed it, but without shifts worked, I dont know that I could get an answer.
