House ownership tips, buying, maintenance etc.

#1 Post by jedisurfer1 » Thu Dec 11, 2014 8:05 am

We currently own a place and though the HOA is sky high they do take care of a lot of things. Will be moving the following year and was wondering if anyone had any good tips for owning, buying, maintaining, buying short sale etc. I'm not new to doing stuff myself as my mom has a place built in the 70s and I do some of the maintenance etc. But having more knowledge in something I'm not well versed is helpful.

Well, an awful lot will depend on exact location desired for your new home. I could give you a ton of tips regarding NEPA or NY, but none for Cali.

If you or your spouse is close to 55, be certain to evaluate your Prop 60/90 eligibility to retain your property-tax basis when moving, which can be significant, more than your sky-high HOA...
