Perhaps on an older machine?
I see in my son's eyes, each day, the wonders I have squandered fortunes to possess and have sought my entire lifetime to attain. jrr 09/2011

Re: Perhaps on an older machine?
Probably only useful in an X40/X41 where drives are getting harder to find.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Re: Perhaps on an older machine?
The question is - does the device support high capacity and high speed SDXC cards? If so, it can be somewhat useful for any older machine, as SD cards tend to be a little better than rotational drives when it comes to small block access. See for example here:
http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/6746/s ... index.html
(4K speed of a mechanical drive, even a fast one, typically does not exceed 2MB/s, and for older machines will likely be <1MB/s).
If it does not support UHS-I (fast SD bus), which it probably does not, it means that it will be limited to ~20-25MB/s, which is less than most typical IDE drives. However, it may still be a little better in random access.
