PC build, Basic

#1 Post by ThinkPad560X » Thu Mar 26, 2015 2:50 am

I got my case in today and installed the motherboard and plunged in everything. Don't have a CD Drive or a HDD yet. It powers on and everything runs but no display output and no USB power and no PS/2 power and no beeps. removed CMOS battery, reset Ram. and still nothing. removed Ram and it beeps then. Found this problem online with lots of results ending different. It is a Intel Board DB75EN with 1 stick of 8GB to max at 32GB. Didn't install a graphics card yet. Has a 650W GPU and got a basic to just get it up and running until I can get a i7, a Intel Pentium G645 SR0RS 2.90GHz 3243A808 Processor. I also had this same problem with the Lenovo board. I read online this processor is compatible with this board.

It needs a CPU with Intel Graphics integrated.
Failing that, adding a graphics card might get it to work also.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

I'll try putting in the new card then after work.

I put in the graphics card and still no display or USB power, I plugged in my IBM USB keyboard and all the Num Lock | Caps L | Scroll L stay on solid green. I even plugged in a Ethernet cable and it lights up green.

Im thinking its the processor. Like I said the lenovo board was doing the same with this processor too. http://ryansccs.hubpages.com/hub/What-a ... d-or-Fails I get this Computer turns on, no beeps, no screen. Does not POST (Power-On Self Test) And I don't get any USB power.

Everything I got is new, the motherboard, PSU, GPU, RAM and the CPU is used. I plan to get a i7 later but don't have much money so I got a Pentium just to get it up and running.

Does anyone know if this is a processor problem? Everything is pluged in, I can't tell right now if the CPU is getting hot, but after turning of the PC I can feel a little warmth around the CPU.

It's really hard to tell whether it's a processor or motherboard problem unless there are spare parts or additional test equipment on hand.

Try this:

1. Take the anti-static bag from the motherboard's box. Close the box, then lay the anti-static bag flag on top of it.

2. Remove the board from the casing, then put it on top of the anti-static bag.

3. Set up a base system: board, CPU, 1 stick of RAM, PSU, speaker, keyboard, monitor. Hopefully the casing's speaker is easily removable, or the cable is long enough.

4. Check the board's manual to find where the power button pins are in the front panel header. Either short them out with a small flat-blade screwdriver to turn on the computer, or connect the power button from the casing (if the cables are long enough)

5. If it doesn't POST or beep, turn it off, try another stick of RAM. Or consult the board's manual regarding RAM slots-- some boards require a specific order of populating the RAM slots. Turn it on again. Keep shuffling RAM slots and sticks until it either works or you run out of possible configurations.

6. If you do run out of possible RAM slot/stick options, boot it without the RAM and see if it gives a POST error.
If it still doesn't, it's down to the board and CPU, assuming the PSU is good and you didn't forget the 4-pin ATX CPU power connector.

A diagnostic POST card would do much to take out the guesswork in this. :<

Personally, I'm more inclined to think it's a motherboard or some other component error because I've never encountered a dead processor that's brand new. Then again, anything is possible.

I was going to order a Core i3 since the papers that came with this board say Only for Intel processors Cores i3 i5 i7. I had the Pentium G and the intel site said the board is compatibility with it. This Processor didn't work with the Lenovo M81 Board aswell, did same thing its doing now, So hopefully getting the i3 will clear it up.

Do they make a motherboard that has all the ports I/O, I still use all my old hardware "IBM" I got a Intel DB75EN motherboard since it was the closes to having all the old ports http://www.ascomputerprice.com/as_comp/ ... DB75EN.jpg, This board is probably outdated now, Supports 3rd Gen Processors but is the only one that could find, Brand New. All the rest didn't offer any PS/2 ports on them or even VGA/DVI. I think most build it your self PCs are mostly for the gaming community. Anyway I tried installing the board into my IBM ThinkCentre A50p and it fits fine but the I/O plate didn't want to fit into place as the Pentium 4 board has a tin I/O fit in. A50p Board http://images.esellerpro.com/2131/I/540/74/M50.jpg I went through 2 ATX cases, 1 was back in 2003 PC build tech class, the case was built cheaply the metal I could bend very easy, 2015 I got a lay down case Its more plastic then metal, All my IBM desktops to towers are build solid and are heavy but don't bend when trying to remove the side door to access the motherboard.
