Lenovo's website: am I blind?

#1 Post by twistero » Mon Jul 13, 2015 12:59 pm

Starting from Lenovo's home page: http://www.lenovo.com/us/en/

Is there any way to navigate to a page listing all current ThinkPad series, just by clicking on links?

I clicked around for five minutes and was not able to find a way. Had to use Google to find this http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/thinkpad/
Seriously? Seriously?
X60 tablet 6363-P3U, 3GB ram, 128GB SanDisk Extreme SSD, SXGA+ screen, Intel 6300

Click on Products at the upper left, then Laptops, expand the Brand link in the left column, then check the ThinkPads box. Everything from Chromebook to X1 Carbon (default list order is lowest price to highest).

I think you're blind but then again I'm wearing contacts and have to use reading glasses with computers :) .

Whew, so I'm not blind! I'm just having hallucinations because there's no such thin as "left column" there.

When I click Products ==> Laptops, I see something like this:
[pic link]https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/8 ... directlink

The URL of that page is: http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/redux/lapt ... id=laptops

Whatever this "redux" is, it's terrible. I know what I'm looking for, and I don't need this vagueness of "Usage" or "Type", thank you very much.

Switched to another browser, and Products ==> Laptops leads to this URL http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/?menu-id=laptops, which looks like what you're seeing. Yeah, dear Lenovo, how about when you experiment with a new site, you put a prominent link to revert to the old one?

I am using Firefox 39.0, have Javascript enabled and accept cookies from third party visited sites. I also employ some adware blocking techniques which shouldn't make any difference here. However the URL I obtained when drilling down to the current ThinkPad laptop systems is:

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/?menu-id=laptops (no "redux")

Not sure why you were getting the "redux" site other than maybe your browser was not tested or designed for when Lenovo changed the site. I just tried Google Chrome (version 43) and it works the same as Firefox. If the HTML looks at your browser ID and it doesn't return something that is recognized, then you might not be seeing everything that is supposed to be there. If that's the case then I agree; it's the fault of the web site developer for not designing their site properly. Which brings up the question: What browser were you initially using?

edit: Also tried IE8 (yeah, I know.... it's old; I'm running on an A31p with WinXPSP3) and got the following message: "We detect you are using an older browser version. For the optimal viewing experience, please consider upgrading to a modern browser.". The page renders mostly the same; the top portion consists of links instead of graphics but the remainder works as it does in Firefox and Chrome (albeit very slow).

I am also using Firefox 39.0. I only get directed to the "redux" site when using my normal Firefox profile; in a Private window I get to the normal site.
Tried removing all cookies that has "lenovo" in them, and still the same.

Tried Firefox 39 in a Private Window and it still works correctly for me. The only other things I can think of is maybe you have some Firefox Add-on that breaks the site and to try another system.

edit: Okay, fired up my T520 running W7Pro64 and Firefox 39. Went to lenovo.com/us/en/ and it got directed to the "redux" page :!: . Tried to disable and re-enable Javascript with no effect. Deleted History for today (cookies, cache, browsing history), still no change. Deleted EVERYTHING in Firefox History and that did it. There is either some cookie or site preference that's set in Firefox that causes it to direct to the "redux" page. Clearing all history will mean you will lose automatic login credentials on all your other sites but doing so corrected access to the Lenovo site on my T520.
