Widescreen Thinkpad Question
What came AFTER the Z61t series?
Preferably 14 inch, but must be widescreen.
After years of faithful service Im thinking about upgrading.
Thanks
Ron

Re: Widescreen Thinkpad Question
The T/R61 was the next series to be released. They were mostly wide screen models.

Re: Widescreen Thinkpad Question
The spread sheet goes quite after the T61's, what else is out there AND did the Widescreen t61 suffer from the GPU bug also?

nVidia-based systems built prior to August of 2008 have suffered from the same bug.AND did the Widescreen t61 suffer from the GPU bug also?

Re: Widescreen Thinkpad Question
So the T61's are a crap shoot
That leaves the T4XX's, how do I easily determine the wide screen?

Re: Widescreen Thinkpad Question
Well, widescreen models have wide screens which are easily distinguishable from 4:3 ones. The keyboard bezel is also thicker, and the audio/mic ports are at the front of the unit on wide models, as opposed to being on the side.jronald wrote:So the T61's are a crap shoot

Ron
EDIT: Applies to T61 models

All of them are widescreen.jronald wrote: That leaves the T4XX's, how do I easily determine the wide screen?
T400/s and T410/s are 16:10
T420/s and later are 16:9
How much are you looking to spend on your "new" system?

Re: Widescreen Thinkpad Question
I would highly recommend the T410 over any T400 or T6x unit.
You will get an iSereies CPU which are fantastic, support for DDR3 (Which the T400 also has IIRC) and a more modern system overall.
My personal T410 (specs in signature) is a real workhorse for both work and play. It's the best Thinkpad I have ever had the joy and pleasure of using. With it's 16:10 LCD at 1440x900 I can easily have 2 windows open side by side. I have the i5 M520 CPU which is a dual core chip with hyperthreading. This essentially gives me 4 cores. 2 physical and 2 virtual. This machine does not hurt for speed. I don't really game anymore outside of 1 browser based game (Vega Conflict). But it did run World of Warcraft pretty well. Just drop the shadows down a notch or 2 and you can get 30fps. Mine has the Nvidia GPU in it.
I can't recommend the T400. They have flaky (weak) USB ports and a lot of users have reported issues with the AMD GPU and switchable graphics.
Good luck in your search. Be sure to let us know what you decide to buy.
