Sounds like a couple fun tinker toys. I've got a basement full of such hardware... Just salvaged an Athlon XP 2100 machine to fidget with the other day with an ATi All-in-wonder. :)

At work today, I encountered a PC with a mix-mash of parts: Athlon 64 X2 3800 (AM2) with a VIA chipset that has an AGP slot... with a 16MB ATI Rage 128 Ultra (!!) installed, running Windows 7 32-bit. It's using the generic VGA driver; I managed to find and install a driver for WinXP (apparently compatible with Win 7), but didn't help with the screen size issue (stuck at 1024x768, can't use widescreen 1366x768). :-{
Daily driver: X220 4291-P79 i5-2520M

In reserve: X61 T7500, X60 T2300
In pieces: X60s CS U1300 [board only], two retired but working X61Ts
RIP: 760XD 9546-U9E

Odd that you're stuck with XGA... my Riva TNT 16mb on the Win95 machine does 1080p just fine.
