6 years ago i was mediocre with excel. Now Im useless
5 sets of 12 numbers (monthly sales)
Each of the sets contribute to a percent of a known total
so:
A (known) is what % of C (known)
or
Jan $156k is what percent of $1.5m
Feb $142k is what percent of $1.5m
and so forth
Keep in mind the % calculated will need to move down to the final set of numbers.
Final set of numbers
Taking the % known from the previous set(s) of numbers
What is the new A based on the known Percent and a known new C
New C is 3m

I see in my son's eyes, each day, the wonders I have squandered fortunes to possess and have sought my entire lifetime to attain. jrr 09/2011

Re: Excel spread sheet question
You still trying to figure this out?
Make the rows the months
Make the columns the sales "divisions" or "categories You mentioned 5 leave a blank column after every "divison" the extera colums are for the % of total
So your column headings and rows will look like this:
Month DivAsales DivA% DivBsales DivB% DivCsales DivC% DivDsales DivD% DivEsales DivE% TOTALsales TOTAL%
JAN ...... 10 .... 50% ...... 5 ....... 25% .... 5 ....... 25% ..... 0 ........ 0 ....... 0 ......... 0 ...... 20 ........ 100%
FEB
MAR
APR
etc
TOTAL
You have to put in the actual sales numbers and can sum for the total
The Divx% is simpley Divxsales / total sales
The last column Total% is not really needed but is a good check of your formulae.
and of course the system stripped all my extra spaces, so i used periods
