According to French publication, Les Numériques (via TechReport), the problem stemmed from color drift when viewing the screen at certain angles. This is something we’ve heard about before in relation to OLED technology and is likely one of the reasons that we have seen so few, larger sized OLED monitors in recent years.
Long way to get a perfect screen I can confirm that OLED displays on mobile phones (at least my Lumia 950, it is also confirmed for Lumia 650 and HP Elite x3) have a green tint when looking from 45 degrees and more angle at it.
Properly designed and manufactured IPS panel with A-TW polarizer and backlight uniformity compensation is still the winner. Unfortunately NEC and Eizo only are willing to deliver it.

Re: Dell Ditches Plans For 4K OLED Monitor Due to Color Drift
I am interested to see what NEC will come up with. Their upper end range of monitors are usually the best in quality and consistency. However, they do cost quite a bit more and I'd probably expect something like this to cost $3000+.
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, A31p, T23, 600X, 770

They already managed to improve the (rather crappy) LED backlight to be in par with CCFL one. Let see what they can do with OLED technology. Dell monitors are still just average office grade monitors, nothing more.

It looks like OLED technology can be improved to deliver decent results but the price is still terrible https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/cat-monit ... dmonitors/

Re: Dell Ditches Plans For 4K OLED Monitor Due to Color Drift
Update of original article:
Despite all those high-end specs, there was said to be a problem with color drift at certain angles. But now Dell has begun shipping the display with a price tag of $3,500 too, which is $1,500 less than the originally stated price.
It does not look like success
