Old PC companies that are gone
I've been cleaning up some of my old stock stuff such as disk drives and floppies/cables/accessories. I found a few manuals and tried looking these computers up to see if I can remember them.
1. PROTEVA Touch Series | Model No. CMP-2C14R
can't find anything on google or ebay of images of these brand desktop only that in the manual it came in a laydown desktop or mini-tower. It has the specs list but just giving the basics (Cyrix PR200 CPU MMX Technology, 32MB RAM, 2GB HDD
2. Kingdom | unknown model numbers but had their own CRT monitor, PC mini-tower and mouse/keyboard and even mousepad with its branding name.
3. D I G I T A L | from what I can remember of this machine it was a lay down desktop and looked almost like the IBM Personal Computer 300GL (Digital Equipment Corporation) http://vignette3.wikia.nocookie.net/mem ... -prefix=en
4. SUN SPARC Station 5 | I did find images of this machine and still looks the same as I remember. They use to call it the Pizza Box. Made by SUN Microsystems.
5. silicon Graphics | I remember these and were printed on the monitors. Not sure if it was the true desktop or just the CRT monitor.
6. NEC | They were white small form laydown desktops with the monitor atop of them.

I found the Digital desktop that I had. http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEC-Digital-Equ ... SwOtdYUbX6
These are very expensive now and I gave mine away a very long time ago.
This is all I could find of Kingdom, The blue logo: http://kingdomblogging.com/wp-content/u ... 26x376.png

DEC became part of Compaq then part of HP.
Sun SGI and still around but into niches, mainly software?
NEC is hanging on in the JP market.

I saw something in the news recently that says that Toshiba maybe headed towards that pile.

Not necessarily a PC company, but this topic made me think of CompuServe.

Re: Old PC companies that are gone
i am going to just inject a few names of hardware stored around my house:
Alpha MicroSystems computer systems..
TeleVideo dumb terminals..
Soroc Technologies dumb terminals.. i don't have any of these..
and another terminal maker whose name escapes me at the moment but their model numbers were 750 and 755..
not exactly in the same orbit of DEC..
OH!, anyone ever see or have a Wang..? made in Massachusetts i think..

For 750 and 755 good ol' IBM comes to mind...
Re: Old PC companies that are gone
I used a Wang dedicated word processor back in 1988. Bulky, heavy 'laptop'...but worked well.BillMorrow wrote: OH!, anyone ever see or have a Wang..? made in Massachusetts i think..
Re: Old PC companies that are gone
I can name a million PC companies that were big and went.
AST, Northgate, Everex, Packard Bell, Commodore, Atari, to name a few.
Plus some cool companies that made parts like 3dfx, Rasterops, Radius, Tseng, Aureal, Ensoniq, Mediavision, IIt, SyQuest, etc

Re: Old PC companies that are gone
Packard bell was bought by Acer. Here is a somewhat new PB laptop Acer brought out. http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/116163- ... affordable
From reading that Acer still uses the PB brand. not sure of today since that was 2012.
They still make PB. http://www.packardbell.com/pb/en/GB/con ... otemetouch
I wish Lenovo would do this with a Classic ThinkPad with the old IBM ThinkPad logo
