No matter you use a 32bit OS, it is limited to 4GB and this additionally affects how much final system memory impacted by GPU's ram. This brings to a question. Can I do fine with windows 7 32bits using older games pre 2000 and any 16bit stuff? My forte is in XP 32bit expertise as well but anyone knows support is stripped more and more and security a problem.
Another example, how I determine older games can work with directx 10.1 and earlier, as well as 9.0c? This is because of GPU choices like using HD 3870, 3850 etc.
Thanks and cheers, Jason

Re: 32bit OS, and directx. Based on premise of old gaming.
Just about all the games I play are 2000 or older and all of them run just fine on my A31p with 98SE loaded. I've also had good luck on T4* series machines and XP, though some of the titles are a bit cranky in XP and need some massaging to work well.
Any of the newer titles (up to about 2006-2007) run pretty well on my T61p or the 10 and newer series with Windows 7 x86. Sometimes when installing the installer thinks DX isn't installed and wants to re-install, but I always skip and the games are always happy with what's there.
I recently did an "old from spare parts" desktop build for my family back home with Win7 x86, and I loaded most of my old games (even the ones which insisted on Win9x architecture) on it, with some tweaks, and they all run very well.
