Seconds that!
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

It's one of the built-in Windows tools that I've consistently used since 3.1. Grabbing screen shots and quickly cropping or re-sizing them, annotating images (with circles, arrows and paragraphs), changing image formats (with later versions of the program) and when the kids were little, using it as an electronic Etch A Sketch. Sure there are other programs that can do these things but you could count on having it on hand with almost any Windows system.

Its apparently not going to be killed off immediately, but its development has been killed.

Microsoft has included a new Paint 3D app in Windows 10. I believe they want to concentrate on that app in the future, which can also be used for basic screenshots/cropping functionality.

Can't even remember when I last used M$ Paint, must have been in the last century!
I have been using Irfanview since about 1997. Does everything I ever need!
And for only a short time I also played with Ulead's Photoimpact for one or two projects.
Found it too complicated for my needs.

I use the Vista version of Paint even though I run Windows 7 since the ribbon UI sucks. Paint is great since it's fast, light, and simple. For artistic editing I use Gimp now.

I use paint.net for all my work now. I remember when I was no older than 8 abd I sat down for aout 6 hours on the T42p and copied by hand a 640x480 16 color image of a windows 95 background. Ahh, the times before I understood copy and paste.

Also, paint before Windows Vista was great. Paint in 7 is alright but not as good.

Yay. More hopeless doodles or terrible drawings.

The Ribbon UI is amazing.

Which actually means everything opposite to 'it will stay'. AFAIK, Windows Store does not serve desktop apps, which means that Paint will be rewritten as 'Universal UI' app, which means it will not stay the same. How different? Time will tell.

Old information. The Windows Store does serve desktop apps if they are simply repackaged: https://blogs.windows.com/buildingapps/ ... ChMEbTc.97 They don´t need to be rewritten. Any UWP-functionality is optional.

Nah, I agree with you TPFanatic. I love the old version of Paint more than the UI Ribbon by far. Also like the better color choice of old Paint compare to the dull, washed out color choice of the UI Ribbon. Opinions are opinions.

Opinions are opinions indeed. :) Most of the objection to the Ribbon UI is that it makes things different that what you got used to, which may harm your productivity during the transition period. Beyond that, in most cases the Ribbon UI makes access to common functions simpler and faster.
