Question 'bout FTP

#1 Post by Rockrz » Tue Nov 14, 2017 7:45 pm

I'm needing to be able to see hidden files (.htaccess) on my hosting server and I'm using Ipswitch WS_FTP Professional 12.4 (with perpetual license, whatever that means)

Been searching and so far cannot find how to make this FTP prog show hidden files.

If anybody knows how to change the settings so this prog can find hidden files, I'd be very thankful!

I use FileZilla (a free FTP program) and it shows the .htaccess file automatically. But that's FileZilla and not Ipswitch WS_FTP. (Sorry I couldn't be more help.)

By the way, just a side question to feed my curiousity:
Why do people buy licensed FTP programs? Maybe I'm missing something or my uses are too small, but isn't it like WinRAR? Where there are many free alternatives that are just as good?

I was using this prog back when it was free and I was used to it... then I got a new PC and the free version would no longer load so I had to pay like $20 or something.

I'm amazed that I cannot figure this out yet since surely this prog and show hidden files.

If all else fails I may have to go with file pillow and may just have to learn a new prog.

If Ipswitch WS_FTP doesn't work, I'd definitely try FileZilla. Maybe I'm "old school" but it's always worked well for me. And the price is good too (FREE!)

Although (honestly) I'm shocked that WS_FTP didn't work. That seems like the "de-facto" standard for paid FTP programs. Let me know how it goes, and sorry that I couldn't be more help.

.htaccess may not even be there...
Or see hidden files after reading this: http://www.tech-evangelist.com/2006/01/ ... den-files/

And if you want a free FTP, check WinSCP (I use it, after WS_FTP started charging)

Beware that FileZilla started to bundle malware/crapware into the installer some time ago, that's why I stopped to use it.

Really? The only thing I've noticed is they try to get you to use InMotion hosting. No thanks.

If things get worse, I'll check out WinSCP.
