Best Benchmark Software?
What is some of the best CPU performance bench-marking software to use for free?
ThinkPads: T420, T42
Re: Best Benchmark Software?
CPU-Z has been my go-to for many years, but there is a variety out there.
Perhaps wait for more responses and just give them all a try/look over.

Re: Best Benchmark Software?
I use 7-zip's benchmark feature. IMO it's a real-world application rather than a synthetic benchmark.

Why don't you download an original 7-zip from: https://www.7-zip.org/
It has no advertising like that Trish-stuff.

Re: Best Benchmark Software?
I linked the pic straight from google image search, just to point out the benchmark feature.
I get 7-zip straight from the creator's site (on Windows) or through my distro's package repositories (on Linux).

Re: Best Benchmark Software?
I have CPU-Z, and I've used the benchmarking software. Is there a way you can figure out the IPS/FLOPS of your processor using CPU-Z?
I've used SiSandra's free benchmarking software (can't recall the name at the moment) but it seemed to put too much strain on the CPU. I guess it's good to use if you can just leave it alone and let it run.

Re: Best Benchmark Software?
Maybe you're a bit confused with the terminology.
Benchmark software is designed to stress/strain one or more components (CPU, GPU, disk, etc.), in order to determine said component's performance.
Maybe what you're looking for is monitoring software, which shows stuff like CPU clock speed (in MHz/GHz), CPU load, RAM usage, etc.
