Military time calculator
Does anyone know of a calculator that will subtract military time like so:
2203 End time
-1225 Start time
====
0938 Total time
2203 End time
-1225 Start time
====
0938 Total time

Gnumeric, OO.o Calc, and MS Excel all do time calculations.
To find number of hours:
A1: 22:03
B1: 12:25
C1: =A1-B2
D1: =C1*24
A1 is your end time, B1 is your start time, C1 will display the difference in terms of time & D1 (if the cell is set to have a number, rather than time format) will show the raw number of hours.

Thanks, I didn't realize excel did that without complicated formula.
I was wondering if there's a calculator that will do that though?
Anyway, after posting I realized that any standard calculator would do by deducting 40 anytime the last two digits (the minutes) was 60 or above: 2203-1225=978 978-40=938.
And for the raw time, as you call it, divide the minutes by 60.

The minutes are never greater than 60 in military time!
You need a calculator to figure out that anytime greater than 1200 (e.g. 1630 hours) simply requires subtracting 1200 from it to determine AM/PM time?

A friend asked, without the use of a computer, what's the easiest but accurate way of figuring out "time worked" when the company only uses military time. So I was wondering if there was a calculator for it.JHEM wrote:WTH are you talking about???
Well, after posting, I found a very simple 1 or 2 step process using any standard credit card sized calculator to do it, check it out:
End time is 10:03PM (2203)
Start time is 12:25PM (1225)
step 1, subtract the start time from the end time:
2203-1225=978 (978 represents time as in 9hrs 78mins)
step 2, since 78 is an invalid number for minutes, and only because it is, subtract 40:
978-40=938 (9 hrs 38mins)
I gladly invite anyone to prove this method wrong using any combination of time...

Also, if you happen to work past midnight, let's say 12:10AM, when calculating use continuous time (midnight is 2400, 1AM is 2500, etc):
2410-1225=1185
1185-40=1145 (11hrs 45mins)
