Unconventional TP favorites?
Which TPs do you guys really like that generally don't get that much attention?
I'll go first:
TP 300- I like Zenith Heathkit....and thats basically it. They know how to design a laptop(well IBM too but....)
TP 500- I really like the little "ultrabook" design and how small it is. Also the side mounted TP buttons.
TP 760LD - 640x480 TFT display on a 760 machine. Works nice like this.
TP 765 - Interesting concept shoving such a "huge" display in a 760 machine.
TP 570(E)- X301's grandfather? Had one a long time ago but it was long since thrown out.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Re: Unconventional TP favorites?
I think the S30/31 has enough of a cult following to be a "popular TP". So in that case I say no. Especially because its a 10th anniversary machine...so by definition its a special machine.

G41 and G50.
Plus Z-series and R61.
A-series are pretty "conventional" I guess?

The L510, though I don't know if it is unconventional.
I like its 6-row keyboard, lid-mounted speakers, and the dedicated buttons that are mounted on the right side of its keyboard bezel. The maintenance hatch on the bottom also allows me to get to the processor, RAM modules, and the hard drive, all in one go.
The lack of a ThinkLight still bothers me, though.

Wanted to get my hands on a G-machine but never got tot it and I don't care that much about a P4 machine to buy one.
Especially if its a "p" series machine. If its the A31p, then George single-handedly can cover the desire for that machine.
Yeah L510 counts. By unconventional I mean machines that generally don't get much love around here. Ones where you could just stroll right by and not take a peek even if they were right out in the open. Put a L510 right next to a 701C, 99.9% of people won't take a look at the L510.

Re: Unconventional TP favorites?
I am really happy with my Thinkpad Helix 2.
Some good Things:
The Surface Book is the only thing that resembles it, and i would be all over it, if it werent for the missing trackpoint and "gap" when closed.
Some good Things:
- It is a tablet, with pen support, which is perfect for studying and notetaking. Most convertibles are too thick when being on a table.
It have a real keyboard dock, unlike the newer X1 tablet and Microsoft Surface tablets. I.e can be used as a notebook.
It doesn't have any mechanical parts (fan, hdd), which can fail. And no dust buildup inside.
It can be docked
It have a camera to scan documents
- It is slow. Really, really slow. The CoreM doesn't age very well.
The camera on the back is really bad.
It doesn't have USB C
Its thick and heavy in "notebook" mode
The bezels are very large. Some more screen for such a large laptop, would be nice.

Re: Unconventional TP favorites?
In common it is thought that S30/S31 is 10th anniversary model... but i have found that special X30 is 10th anniversary...Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 06, 2019 12:53 pmWhich TPs do you guys really like that generally don't get that much attention?

TP 570(E)- X301's grandfather? Had one a long time ago but it was long since thrown out.
Butl i like my S31 for it's form (design). It is like cheburashka чебурашка - from my country folklore.
I didn't have 570(E) but my favorite is fanless 560Z. I think that 570 is grandfather of all X-series, but not X30x (because X30x have no dock and it is first ultrabook and all other ultraportables (X-series) have all it's power in dock).
X30x in terms of real ultrabook it was made to compete MBA but... can't made it's own line in Thinkpad production. X2xx made line of ultraportables and ultrabooks made it's own line in X1(C).
SL300 - i have got one to compare with X301. Interesting concept but too thick. And like X301 haven't got continuation. And Piano Black finish like S31;)
I like design of 430u more than 430s but it sucks:( Lenovo could do more from 430u if it redesigned ports, battery and hdd (in favor of SSD) layout, added 7mm DVD and good screen and.... keyboard... but they fail;(
TP 770 - for 1280x1024 screen.
I like A30p more than A31p and don't know why (i have both;) And A30p have less attention, being in shadow of elder brother (A31p).
Z-series... interesting. Especially Z50. But it is not ThinkPad (WorkPad is his name;) and 240 as elder brother to Z50.

Take a glimpse at my post earlier Z-series w/titanium lid is a thing to admire. Too bad they are just too slow for most tasks nowadays.dr_st wrote: ↑Mon Mar 18, 2019 2:45 amLooks like you forgot the Lenovo Thinkpad Z series, the first widescreen Thinkpads:

Re: Unconventional TP favorites?
Ooooh.... my bad.
Z61 on par with T60 - 3Gb mem and no help from GPU for video decoding:(
But for me the worst feature of Z6x-series was peeling off varnish on Titanium lid.
Re: Unconventional TP favorites?
Yeah, I never dug the looks of the Titanium lid, despite it uniqueness, and preferred the traditional black Z-series lids.
