That "small" screenshot was 124.11 KB, well over the 50KB limit!
So at 124kb, that would take what, another nanosecond or two to load?
AMD Phenom II 965 @ 4.1Ghz, 8GB DDR3 1600, SSD
AMD Phenom II 960T @ 4.1Ghz, 8GB DDR3 1600, SSD
Lenovo T61p 15.4" - Core 2 extreme X9000 CPU @ 3.4Ghz, SSD
Toshiba Satellite A505D - 2.5Ghz, 4GB RAM, 80GB SSD

You are missing the point, deliberately or not.

Rules are here to be obeyed, whether one agrees with them or not.

I was just highlighting the lunacy behind the rule, that's all.

My work here is done.

And I get the idea that large pictures can be obnoxious but on the flip side a tiny 50KB picture could also be considered that way, and to small or to difficult to read. If I had to chose one or the other I would definitely go for the larger image that's readable, clear and concise and could be saved for later high resolution viewing

Computer monitors have evolved greatly in the past couple years and now support insane, amazingly high resolutions. So for most, I don't think viewing the larger image is going to be a problem in terms of thread readablility.
There has to be some middle-ground. I will go as far as saying that an image >2K pixels wide is something that almost no one wants to see inline in a forum post. Because even if my monitor is 3840x2160, I rarely view a single window maximized at 100% scale.

According to this chart approximately 1/4 of desktop/laptop users are still on 1366x768, and 1920x1080 is approximately 1/5. The same picture rule we have in the forum also recommends that images are no more than 800x600, and I think you can see why (although, IMO, it's relatively safe to say that 1024 pixels is also OK for most folks).
