Is there a FAQ regarding what topic is allow to post or not?

#1 Post by Wholesomer » Sun Jul 03, 2005 1:29 am

I can't seem to find a FAQ's regarding which topic is "taboo" and the post will be removed.

I recently post a New IBM deal for the ThinkPad X41 Tablet W7TABLP with a good discount price for EPP (employee + friends and family.) I am neither selling or offering to give any one the EPP code. I did post the price from EPP website to alert others EPP members about the good deal which they can get.

My post has been deleted and I have not received any PM or email regarding why it has been deleted. I am still wondering why. Hopefully, someone will point me to the FAQ's so I can find out why.

In my experience, posting any info on how to get a new ThinkPad cheaper is taboo, unless it's info on how to get one from Bill (the owner of this site). If you've actually GOTTEN a quote from Bill, and EPP, educational, or credit card discounts make it cheaper, you MIGHT get away with it, but I don't recommend it.

Makes sense, after all - this is Bill's support forum, not actually a community support forum (although it ends up being used like one).

Edit: When I did my thing, I got a PM telling me to never do that again, in case you're wondering.

Actually, what I said to you when I moved your messages over to the mod's private forum for review was:
Perhaps because you're new, you aren't aware that this forum is generously provided by an authorized IBM reseller. It was rather tactless to post a message pointing to discount prices in the FAQ section of the forum he is paying for. Please don't do that again.
I didn't delete wholesomer's post, though. One of the other mods must have beaten me to it.

Contrary to the comment that this is Bill's support forum, it is a venue that Bill has provided for user-to-user support ever since IBM closed their TP forum on Compuserve. There is no FAQ about what can and can't be posted, so just behave as you would if you were visiting Bill's home. If you go astray, the mods are here to guide you back in line.

Thanks for clarifying, nonny.

That's actually a good policy, to behave like you're visiting his home.

Thank you all. I didn't know the Owner of this site also sells the thinkpads. That's make sense that a price quote is "taboo" since it will be difficult for him to compete with EPP prices.

the thing is, this is supposed to be a support and news forum..
not a place to explain how to beat the system, who has the best deal today or similar..

many here don't know that this forum and thinkpads.com are tied together..

you don't see pop-up adverts from me or anyone else (yet) pushing anything..
i try to keep it low key, free flowing and uncensored..
this appears to be difficult..

i can usually do a good deal and at least match the total legitimate price for many thinkpad models that can be had on the various incentive programs..

but it gets harder and harder so i occasionally move or delete a post that offends or steps over the line..

over the line includes how to take advantage of something some, many or most are otherwise not entitled to..

I didn't want to dispute your policy but the policy must be applied with a consistency. The reason why I thought that posting the EEP price was OK because anyone who visits thinkpads.com will see that the EEP prices are being posted every where. Be it the T Series or the X Series forum, the EPP prices are there in every other post for everyone to see. My X41 Tablet EPP price posted was deleted but in the same forum, the X32 Review with the EPP price is OK. If anyone want to find out how much a particular T model cost, a quick search in the T Series forum will give you the EPP price. Well, that's my $0.02.

Well, actually, it is applied consistently: if Bill or one of the mods finds it offensive, it's gone.

I never saw your message because Bill or one of the other mods had whacked it before I got there, however from your original note in this thread:
I recently post a New IBM deal for the ThinkPad X41 Tablet W7TABLP with a good discount price for EPP (employee + friends and family.) I am neither selling or offering to give any one the EPP code. I did post the price from EPP website to alert others EPP members about the good deal which they can get.
you only posted to tell other EPP people what price they can get.

Well, if they're entitled to that price, they already know that. If they're not entitled to it, what was the point?

The point is not too many people knew about the bundle deal whether it is an EPP deal or not. Lenovo didn't put the bundle deal in the tablet listing and a lot of people has changed their orders, some did not even have the EPP deal, after they found out about my post.

The point is a lot of people were able to save some money and get a better tablet than any previous tablet offered by Lenovo because they read my post. Also, there were nothing offensive about the deleted post except for the EPP price was posted. The rest of the messages were the same as the new one I have made in the X Series forum.
