RBS Post # 20,000

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Tue Jul 09, 2019 4:19 am

Over the years I have had lots of praise on this forum, but also lots of criticism.
Since I have a broad enough back (even at my only 5'6" - 170cm height), it all slid off like Teflon and I just kept going.
Which today inspired me to make this post to be my Forum-post # 20,000.

This post is not about ThinkPads, but about my long love for cars, the older and more diversified, the better!
Originally I became an automotive engineer, with a job-offer from Ford in Windsor, Ontario/Canada, to help design engines.
In 1968 I emigrated to Canada, but first went to stay for a few months with family in Vancouver BC, to get "used" to Canada.
Within weeks I got to know someone who worked in the IBM Data Centre there.
I liked what he told me, I went for a job interview there, and the rest is history.
I became a fully fledged Systems Analyst/Programmer on IBM Mainframes, with Cobol and Assembler as my 'main languages'.
Over the years I added about 15 other programming languages.

Since I have had so many cars (ca. 45) over the years, I can't remember them all.
Fondest memory is of my black 1961 Volvo P544, which looked exactly like this one: http://www.gentrylane.com/s/wp-content/ ... lvo-03.jpg

But to no longer bore you with my details, last Sunday, July 7, 2019 I spent the whole day at
The 28th Irish Classic and Vintage Motor Show in Terenure, Dublin, Ireland.
About 1500 cars were on display, dating from around 1890 - 2019.
Among them an electric Jaguar, valued at about 1 Million Euros and a very early Aston Martin Prototype (show-winner).
Not to forget my brother-in-law's 1969 Porsche 911s 2.0 rally car.
To get an idea of that huge variety, have a look at this 1 hour 15 minutes photo-show on Youtube
Enjoy!
The weather was scorching hot, with some people even fainting from the heat!
Since I moved back to Ireland last May, we have had more sunny days and better weather than almost all of last year in PA, USA!
Lovely day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff). And pigs CAN fly!

I watched about a min of the video and it looks really interesting, seeing the designs of the various vehicles. Something to see later tonight...Thanks!

I doubt that the weather is the only thing that's significantly better in Ireland when compared to NEPA... :D

Congrats on the post # 20K. Keep it up, it's been a fun ride.

While I'm missing you guys dearly I couldn't be happier that you finally made it to where you want to be.

One huge CHEERS to you, my dear friend... :thumbs-UP:

Congrats RBS! Always a helpful and friendly presence. I know that I've learned a lot from your posts over the years.

Cheers. I think this calls on you to hoist a Guinness. ;)
