Need some printer recomndations

#1 Post by farmer kev » Wed Jul 06, 2005 12:54 pm

What I want to do is buy a inkjet printer that can handle 11x14 paper.
Have done several nights of web searches and not finding what I'm looking for. A link to a review page would be most welcome.
Specs:
No winprinters.
must have parallel conection.
OS/2 compatable.
Print quality close to my HPdeskjet 940c if not better.
Used is just fine, does need to have been made in enough numbers that ink cartriges can be found for it.

I want to print up star charts and posters with out having to tape pages together.
Thanks in advance.

11 x 14 is a bit of an odd size. If you look for printers that can handle 11 x 17, this is a more common size, and you could cut down the paper as needed. This size is known as "tabloid" in the graphic arts world, or "legder" in the business world. Epson makes several of these, I have an older Epson Stylus Photo EX that takes tabloid-size paper.

As for the OS/2 compatibility, that may be tough... I'm just not sure...

I know first hand that the Canon i850 and iP4000 work well with the IBM Omnien driver for the i850 these are PP but aren't wide carriage. I suggest you post to the newsgroups

Leoblob: Staples has 11x14 so thats where I started.
The hint that they are called tabloid printers was just the ticket, plenty of choices just in HP printers. When I find one that looks good I search Warp.be and find out about drivers for it. Many I have found will use 12 and even 13 inch wide paper, major cool.
Thanks for the help.
And if anybody has a recomindation, or a printer to avoid, a posting would be appreciated!

[edit] Staples has 11x17, brain spasim

Glad the info was helpful. I thought maybe it was going to be too general to be of any use.

I'm only familiar with Epson... in general they have a good rep among the graphics community.
