Recommendation for New "Light Gaming" Lenovo Laptop?

#1 Post by olex126 » Thu Nov 28, 2019 5:25 am

I have a 14 year-old grandson who wants a "light-gaming" laptop, and since I'm not into gaming, I'm throwing the question out here. Since I'll be the one responsible for maintenance, etc, I'd prefer Lenovo. Dad says he has a budget of up to $750 for it. (Why didn't MY Dad ever say that?!?)

Any recommendations?

Thanks. Regards.

Dave

As long as it says it specifically has a dedicated graphics card, you should be fine.

Maybe a T470p or something would be fine.

It is worth it to try to understand how he plans to use it and which games he means to play. If he thinks about using the built-in keyboard for gaming, then the keyboards on Thinkpads is terrible for this purpose. I don't know which laptops have it better, but they must exist.

Thinkpad 4x3 and dr_st: Thank you both for your observations and suggestions.

In the end, all was for nought as far as a Thinkpad was concerned..... My grandson will be the recipient of a new Alienware gaming lappie.

Evidently he decided that "light gaming" was only going to lead to "heavy gaming", and convinced Dad that it was in his best interest to have Santa save money by skipping the cheaper laptop and going straight to the "heavy duty" Alienware.

The kid has more persuasive powers than I did at his age (13).... When I tried to convince Santa for a BB Gun in my 13th year, all I got was... "You'll shoot your eye out kid!" :D

Thanks again for the responses guys!

Regards.

For my 13th birthday I received a beautiful Ithaca 20 ga pump shotgun. The wood the stock and fore end was made from a stunning piece of oak and the high polish blue on the barrel and receiver was outstanding.

I took a lot of squirrel and rabbit and quail with that shotgun. Wish I still had it.
