NEC introduced 4:3 Color Accurate Desktop Monitor

#1 Post by Puppy » Thu Jan 09, 2020 4:56 pm

NEC introduced a new 4:3 desktop monitor again in 2015: https://www.necdisplay.com/p/displays/p212-bk-sv

DPI is unfortunately too low (21" 1600x1200 = 95 PPI only), but still a good start :-)

4:3 High PPI medical monitors have been around for a while. You can get them in 3MP(2048x1536) and 5MP(2650x2048). They will just cost you an arm and a leg.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

The original use for the BoeHydis 4:3 15" HV150UX2-100 (1600x1200) with LED-backlight was also in medical equipment, such as Ultrasound scanners.
They were found to be so reliable, that they also use them in aircraft cockpits.

If you want a tall desktop monitor, why not just rotate a 16:10 or 16:9 monitor into portrait mode? I used to do that to several QHD monitors, making them 1440x2560, e.g. see https://www.thinkpads.com/forum/viewtop ... 49#p772649 . At some point I may rotate my 30" Monoprice monitor into 1600x2560.

Whereas a laptop's screen height can't be changed, for desktop monitors, tablets, and smartphones, one can rotate the screen. Just make sure it's IPS or VA, because a rotated TN screen looks terrible.

Also, don't forget the EIZO FlexScan EV2730QFX 26.5" 1920x1920 IPS monitor.
HP Pavilion x2 12-b096ms (12.0" 1920x1280, Core M3-6Y30, 3.14lb); Microsoft Surface 3 (10.8" 1920x1280, Atom x7-Z8700, 2.00lb)
Dell OptiPlex 5040 SFF (Core i5-6600)
Acer ET322QK, T272HUL; Bolva 40BL00H7; Crossover 404K; Monoprice 10734; QNIX QHD2410R; Seiki Pro SM40UNP
