Re: I want my Real Black Stuff!
Me too RBS. With this lockdown been drinking lots of craft beer local to Western Canada. However I do miss a real pint of expertly pulled Guinness from my favourite small English style pub. A Kilkenny is also "mighty" as you Brits would say.
Having said that an Irish friend of mine says that Guinness in Ireland is much better than the garbage we get here. Even though I've never had the real RBS, I'm still missing RBS.

No thanks. Tasteless black crud if there ever was one.
Paulaner, Hofbrau, Spaten, Bitburger, not necessarily in that order.

Yeah, I enjoy unfiltered wheat beers myself. But I also like the darker stronger stuff (~8%). It usually starts having this sweet edge to it. Especially Barbar with its honey.

Re: I want my Real Black Stuff!
I don't really care for most brands of Weißbier. There was a Czech variety I tried a number of years ago that I really enjoyed, but can't find it any longer. I don't remember the brand either, but I liked it.
I like a good Pilsner like the Bitburger, or lager like the Hofbrau and Paulaner. The Dopplebock is good too in season as is the Maiboch and Oktoberfest Wies'n if you can find it in season. They don't import it every year though, but I would imagine they will this year since Oktoberfest has been cancelled.

Fortunately for me, all the alcohol retailers in my area were always still open, as they were deemed an "essential" service. (Most likely because a whole bunch of alcoholics going through withdraw at the same time would contribute to strain on healthcare), but hey, the rest of us can buy Guiness still, and whatever else as well.
Re: I want my Real Black Stuff!
Liquor stored are all open here too, but for drive-up or walk-up service only. I was allowed inside last week when they only had Bitburger and I wanted that and Paulaner, but they were out. I didn't know what else I wanted so they let me in to shop.
Turns out there was a six pack of Paulaner in the warm rack next to the cooler.

Our country imposed a liquor ban since the lockdown began. There was a news report the other day where police chased and caught a hearse that tried to evade a checkpoint, which turned out to have bottles of liquor stuffed inside the coffin.

In Ireland you can go to any food store, most of which also have a liquor license.
You can get Guinness in cans or bottles, but a draft pint is what is sorely missing...
You can get a slew of other beer brands as well, from all over the world, incl. Japan and China.
IMHO the best non-Guinness brew is Budvar, the original Czech lager, better known in Europe as Budweiser.
The Americans (Anheuser-Busch) stole, and still abuse that Budweiser name to make their most horrible Bud cats piss.

Whoever heard of using rice in beer? I will never drink an Anhueser product. And they call themselves Germans.

Rice in beer - Sake anyone?
Or that Korean top fuel soju? Some sort of rice gin that'll scorch your throat all the way down.
I like Grolsch, especially the 16oz ceramic flip top bottles.

The lemon-flavored Soju I had one night in Seoul and some of the sakes I have had while in Tokyo were probably some of the most palatable alcohols I have had.
Unrelated, but what the Koreans say about fried chicken and soju being very good together is quite true.
Can't say I prefer to be near alcohol though, so I've been staying clear of it for a while now. About 10.5 months clean now.

Not sure about the fried chicken and soju, but stay away from the kimshee soup. It has no odor but will roast you like a volcano.madicetea wrote: ↑Fri Jun 05, 2020 12:58 pmPerfect timing to come back to the forum and see this post.cadillacmike68 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 03, 2020 7:43 pmRice in beer - Sake anyone?

I still have a couple half pints of soju left over from ly last trip there many years ago. It's too strong to drink straight (over 100 proof).
