So, into the madness with Facebook (and Instagram which it owns) going down. Call me controversial or whatever, but am I the only person who sees this as Big Tech finally getting a long-deserved taste of its own medicine?

I mean, I think the US Congress has taken a bit more notice to such companies as of late?
But I am unsure that other than the news putting them into mainstream conversation for this short recent time (which I imagine will fade as quickly), there has been a real long term effect on these companies yet?

Do you see something different? I haven't even seen evidence that the EU can force GDPR fine payments from large tech companies yet, last I heard.

i don't waste my time with any of that nonsense. I use this forum for computers, a few Cadillac forums for my cars and an old Canon film camera forum for my cameras. Plus a few 2A forums. No ANTI-social media bs for me.

I'm late to the party, haven't logged in a while.

I assume this was referring to that outage of a number of (anti-) "social" media sites a while back.

At the time, I sent a message to all users on my self-hosted XMPP server that unlike them, our service was still up.

A very brief moment of schadenfreude. In the end I'm afraid you're right, and it's long forgotten now by most. But I will continue to maintain my own services regardless.
