Free shipping on accessories at Lenovo (trackpoints!)

#1 Post by K. Eng » Mon Jul 18, 2005 5:11 pm

I noticed today that there will be free shipping on all accessories and stuff. I'd put off buying trackpoint caps from various vendors because they charged $6 or so for shipping, which IMO was kind of silly for something so light.

$9.99 + tax.

You get 2 of each type... there's a place on the web (compu-lock) that sells sets of 4 of the same kind, but you pay $20 after shipping. You might as well get two sets direct from Lenovo and have 12 caps total :D

The "Add To Cart" link in the Lenovo web site is broken.

I called Lenovo direct at 866-968-4465 and placed my order by phone (US and maybe CA only). Free shipping but had to pay Calif. sales tax.

The person I spoke with was very pleasant and helpful. It was quicker than most online transactions.

I just got the trackpoints this afternoon. :D

My beat up T40 looks quite a bit better with a nice red dot in the middle of the keyboard. Before, the trackpoint had turned a maroon-ish/black color.

What I did find amusing was that the box and product documentation all say IBM, while the shipping papers all say Lenovo. The box itself was sealed in tape with IBM logos, and the foam pack that had the bag of trackpoints had a "sealed for quality by IBM" tape as well.

Is it IBM or Lenovo? Who knows.

I'm sure they are just using up 'supplies on hand'. They've already been paid for, and they work, so why throw them out?
