Thinkpad 755 HDD reformat/factory reset

#1 Post by getarest2000 » Wed Oct 18, 2023 8:30 pm

Hello,
I lost Windows password, is there a way to factory reset 755 or reformat HDD from DOS?
Was not able to find anything on Google.
Please advise.
Thank you!

You can reformat, as long as you have a floppy drive and disks.
Planned Purchase: T480s i5-8350 FHD Touch
Impulse Buy: Thinkpad not named for safety reasons

Boot from the floppy, then enter:

Code: Select all

format c:

I think it should be:

Code: Select all

format c: /s
right?

But before that, you should make a bootable floppy. Whether it's MS-DOS 6.22, FreeDOS, IBM PC-DOS 7, DR DOS 7.1, or whatever, get a floppy disk image (usually with .IMG extension) or installer EXE file. I haven't created a DOS disk in years, but the last time I did, I used an old Windows program called WinImage to create a boot disk from IMG files.

If you want Windows though, that's another matter entirely.
