I love the ThinkPad's look and feel. Although it's hard not to notice some other cool designs out there. But for me, 'Thin is In'. :D

Do you have "any" form of instant messanging, I have so many people who like "da g4m1in l4pt0p" and insult my T43 because it doesn't have dual 6800Ultras in SLI or such.

Thinkpad looks definitely are not the love-at-first-sight type, but is appreciated over time.

I've always liked the ThinkPads. They might not always be the most stylish but because of that, their design never does seem to expire. That new silver Dell XPS looks nice now but how cheesy do you think it'll be 5 years down? The ThinkPad's design does have an element of it's time but still manages to be timeless, given that's even possible, I think.

Sorry, I thought my dad's T30 was the best looking laptop even if I went to Bestbuy and saw flashy laptops when I was younger
I still think my T43 is one of the best looking laptops when I go to Bestbuy, I laugh at those 2 inch thick, low resolution but 17 inch BIGSCREEN, highly unportable non modular bay huge battery minimal life with Pentium 4-M and Radeon 7500 or worse, intergrated graphics.

I don't think a Thinkpad forum is the right place for asking that kind of question. Would be like going to a BMW enthusiast forum and making the poll "Don't BMW just build crappy cars?".

BUT, since you asked:
I like the thinkpad look just the way is it. No more bells and whistles for me. For me it's a tool - not a multimedia bonanza. And it surtenly (spelled correctly?) does the job.
The design is practical, because I can take my thinkpad out to a machine-shop without being bothered that slightly oily fingers of "less clean" table surfaces might ruin everything.
It's practical, sturdy, handy (2,6kgs), reliable and I love working on it.
Same reason why the company buys so [censored] many of them.

After some time, I have come to see the thinkpad as more of a statement. Kinda like Apple. In a dirty way.

I couldn't agree more. I used to think Thinkpads were really ugly and boring and way too black. But I got one and when you spend 12+ hours a day with it you start to appreciate that it's not that eye-catching and you notice all the little logically and carefully designed details. (Love-at-first-sight type of things tend to become quite boring later on. ) I think it's beautiful and elegant now.

I like them a great deal. It doesn't matter which model, they all have that professional look except perhaps the G series, which are just too big.

Whether or not it is the best looking laptop on the market is a totally different question. I believe the ThinkPads are the best engineered and most ergonomic, though I'd give the style points to Apple.

I find that the indicator LEDs are highly efficent at what they do.
Instead of seeing a "BRIGHT" LED that can be seen 4 miles away (Making your laptop a siginaling tool as well) for your power.
Then you have the word "PWR" over that LED. Not exactly helpful for those non-english speakers
Then you have "HD" and a circle above that, it turns rainbow when your HD is being access, and red if "You did a bad", also seen 4 miles away.

I rather like the simple picture/shape LEDs TPs have.

I've always liked the mini LCD indicators that were found on the 760 and 770 best, mainly for the battery status indicator that could give you either the percent remaining or how much longer the charge will last. I wish IBM would have kept that feature and added a backlight to it instead of going with LED's on all models instead.

I'd rather have my T23 at my desk in the office than some "flashy" new dell......Right now my 2.5" external USB harddrive is louder than my laptop. (And it looks to sexy)

Well, I think my X30 is sort of plain looking, and I'm perfectly OK with that, but when I whipped it out at the local Chinese restraunt the owners went absolutely nuts over it!

So it's in the eye of the beholder it seems.

If Thinkpads were available in midnight blue or maybe gunmetal that would be great!

Well, go to a highschool, or college, libary, cafe with internet
All of those places say "Eeww, is that from 1993? Because its ugly as one", and the XPS Gen 2/Alienware owners taunt me.

When I bought my first TPs I picked them because they were IBM Thinkpads! In addition, they looked professional compared to the gray NRCs, Brown TIs, whatever color Compaqs, HPs, Dells, Microns and others.

My 1st TP was a 701c. Then I got a 486 755 which I quickly upgraded to a 755cx with a P75 CPU. I lugged that around for about 4 years and picked up a Sony 505G on clouseout for $600 USD when the screen went out on the 755cx.

I still really like the little 8 x 10 x 3/4" Sony but sigh, it's only a PII 200. I picked up a pair of 240x TPs last year and I really love them.

My T20 has always been very handsome looking but the 600 series TPs look even better. The A series while functional are clunky looking.

I have an X31 that I still haven't gotten used to yet.

I started out with the 600E (Pentium II 400MHz) a couple of years ago. I sold it a few months ago. I recently go the T22 (900MHz) and used it for a while until a friend of mine wanted to use it, so I got another T22 (900MHz). Another friend of mine wanted to buy a laptop, so I ended up getting an A30 (Pentium III 1GHz).

So now that I finally settled with the A30, I find the TPs okay. I did some research and found out that Thinkpads can handle certain things versus a Dell. Two things I don't like about the A30: 1) it is heavier than the T22 (7lbs. versus almost 5lbs); and 2) because the case is all black, it gets rather hot when sitting outside in sunny weather (even at 65 degrees). There is a wi-fi hotspot near my job, is why I'm outside.
