My college is an IBM service center?

#1 Post by Guest » Thu Jul 01, 2004 1:56 pm

When asking about the 3 year depot warranty when purchased through the school, the computer manager at my college said

"3 Year Depot means the computer is covered for 3 years (parts & labor), but
needs to be shipped to IBM or brought to an IBM Service Center (our store
included) for repair. "

Does this mean that IBM trains my college techs on Thinkpads? Or what? No matter what I think this is great for me because I would never really have to part with my machine if the service center is on campus.

It is not uncommon for larger universities to have computer shops that are "authorized" repair centers for major OEMs. When I was in college my university's store was an authorized repair center for IBM, Dell, and Apple (or so the signs claimed).

I have no idea what a repair shop must do to be certified by a manufacturer for repairs. Logically it would make sense for a certified repair shop to have its staff trained by the manufacturer, but it's hard to say for sure.

It means that the techs at your college are certified/qualified to work on IBM lappies. And yes, this is very good for you.
