Stupid people who think they're smart or right
One of my favorites would be talking about the XPS Gen 2 kiddys in my area treating their 17 inch laptop as an ultraportable
Then you got the 21 inch laptopers, but heres some stupidity beyond just being an idiot...
(Name censored to be nice...): my monitor is like 60 and my case is a raidmax sammurai and those things weigh like 40 empty
Wonder why hes saying that? He wants to make a laptop/briefcase thing.
He also says it will have a UPS.
But think about it, you're already packing a 21 inch lcd in there, full size ATX motherboard, twin 7800GTXes with watercooling, 1 highly overclocked Athlon FX-57 + Huge heatsink to go with it, a 7.1 speaker system that rivals the riced out cars, then to top it off, hes going to pack at least enough UPSes in that to give him 4 hours of battery life.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6842106110
Remember, 35 pounds gives you 80 minutes.
Hes going to pack more than one.
Also note to all Model M users - He ran over one with his parents cars since it "didn't match my blue n white n black theme"
He called me and the rest of the Thinkpad community (Just by explaining my T43 can play Half Life 2 yet be portable) "wimps that i eat for morning breakfast with their sissy arms"
I think he needs to say it to the G series owners too.
You see, I deal with very stupid people in my area, if anyone would like, you can give them some common sense. Most of these users use AOL Broadband, and AIM for messanging.
Note to everyone:Why is this topic here? Its not to insult the XPS Gen 2 owners. Its to be aimed at "people who force their opinion on you". Such as "WELL DATS ONE UGLY BLAK LAPTOP!! LOZOR" people in my area.

Re: Stupid people who think they're smart or right
Kids in your area are toting XPS Gen 2 machines? Where do you live? If they are gamers the XPS Gen 2 is just fine, but it's not a good work machine IMO... far too heavy.

They do this
Microsoft Office, then go to starbuck, copy-paste stuff and make own assignment
Need for Speed 2 (I easily can play this even on my Thinkpad)
Some pirated ROMs + Emulator (Easily done)
Windows Paint to "EPXRESS HOW WE R POWAR FUL" (They run about 12 and load a picture into it)
Open multiple instances of internet explorer to show off (I can too, I can open 20 too.)
And cycle their lights at you calling you a "LOSER" for owning a "NON LIGHTED LAPTOP"
They're generally of these ages, 6-9 (Spoiled ones) 12-14 (IM DAH GAMMMAR WHO POOOTS U), 15-18 (IM BETTER DEN U LZOR U KANT OVARCLOCK!!! U SUK USUKKK), and 19-24 (Getting over it, but still like to harrass people)
Note - They've cycled their batterys to the point they only get 15-25 minutes of battery life per pack (Or they set it so theres no dynamic clock)

I must be out of touch. I have a younger brother who just graduated from high school, and while many of his friends had their own automobiles, none of them bought notebook computers until the summer before they went to college.
I guess if people want HUGE
As for myself, I prefer business machines because they have everything I need and no extra weight!

Here in my area, with many folks, if you just started spewing out about how much better you are because of your computer, you'd lose any chane f having decent frends, be labled eternally as a nerd (the bad annoying type, not the good smart type) and there'd be the possibility of daily face punching.

I've decided that Navck lives in an alternate universe, thinks we have the same concerns as him, and thinks we care what other people use for their laptop. There are plenty of people who are fans of thinkpads, powerbooks, HP, etc that are just as obnoxious as these XPS people he's talking about.
There's no arguing that the XPS (gen 2) is an impressive machine. It's just not for me.
Oh yeah, all his threads are him complaining about his classmates.

those children need more than just a computer..
they need to show off..
its like a male peacock in all his feathered glory..
but said peacock is not so dumb as to add hood scoops, a huge power amp and speakers that blow the windows out, 21 inch alloy wheels with parts that keep spinning even after the car stops and blue LED lights, under over and incorporated within, every available space..
those kids NEED to be noticed and if it takes a huge and silly "portable" computer, then who cares..
and they also must denigrate what they can't have..

Bill stated half of my area in that small paragraph.BillMorrow wrote:those children need more than just a computer..

"SHOWOFF" = Kids in my area.
21 inch screen, LED on laptop, power amp attached to it and able to blow Windows XP up, LED lights all over laptop (Yep, fan, side, etc. XPS Gen 2)
Bill - Apparently you almost described a XPS Gen 2 there. The huge speakers, 21 inch LCD screen (Well wheels made me think screen due to size, its that new XPS gen 3), lights (Everywhere, look at XPS. Everywhere! And lighted case, and lighted keyboard... Annoying)
The XPS is an impressive machine and the only problem with is is those lights (which I imagine you can turn off). You can't fault dell for making it, it obviously has a market. The biggest problem I see is your constant complaining about it and ranting and raving about something that really isn't that important.Navck wrote:Bill stated half of my area in that small paragraph.BillMorrow wrote:those children need more than just a computer..

Personally, I'd never buy a Dell XPS notebook (I'd gladly accept one as a gift though) mainly because I'd want something more portable and with better battery life and power management but again, the XPS wasnt originally meant to be an everyday take to school or work notebook. They are designed for those who need and/or want the option of portability when needed but plan on using at a desk most of the time and thus heat, weight, thickness and size will not bear the same premium as graphics, screen or cpu speed. Most people I know who own the XPS fit that very market segment I described.
My view is while the XPS does have many faults, looking at the XPS when you want battery life, portability and minimalistic formfactor and professional styling is like going to McDonalds when you want to lose weight. You're looking in the wrong direction. When people forge this, that's when we see these bg rants and raves as described by Navck. I think the best solution in those cases though, is to simply ignore it, nothing more. Fighing over who has the best computer is, well, nerdy, and not in the cool smart way either, just the slobbery, gross and ugly nerdy way.
Many folks see my ThinkPad 760ED at school and crack a joke or two about it's age or thickness but usually stop there as they realise it still gets the job done and comparing your new computer to it to try looking good is like a football player trying to look good by comparing himself to a five year old: you don't look better, you just give the message that you can't compete against anything more.

OK, I think that's enough of this even for the Off-Topic forum. If you guys want to bash each other or other people's choices, do it someplace else.

actually, I think he was going back onto topic...
I do agree. the actual "school" functions could be replaced by 5 dollar technology.
but, for other things like gaming or pointless webbrowsing you can't really go wrong with a 4000 dollar laptop.
you have to realize a person that buys a laptop for gaming is going to use it for gaming even if it doesn't really make much sense.
I didn't buy an iPod nano to show off how badass it is. yet, I still find myself pulling it out just the right moments to get the attention.
I mean we are people. look at all the other mindless things we do. I wouldn't even try to make a list it would almost go on forever. the way I see it the more you question or think about things like this not only are they going to be in your life more. but, you start turning into that same thing you were totally agianst at the start just in a different form.

You know, old ladies who only drive to the church and supermarket when the leave the house will own a Camaro Z28 or a Corvette and you'll see 5 year olds who own AMD 64's that get used for paintbrush and minesweeper. Likewise you'll see people building race cars outta compact 4 cylinder import cars and folks who will use a 486 or Pentium 133 for the most intense tasks possible.
Sometimes dispositions happen in the marketplace but until people start blatantly interfering with and harrasing other people, I don't see any reason to do anything more than crack a joke or make a quickie comment about the situation.
If I was rich, I'd probably go out and buy the most expensive computer I could just so I can tell my friends I have a $6,000 deck of cards (I love playing blackjack), it'd be a real fun conversation getter, though I don't think mine would be covered in metalics and bright blue LED's, a standard matte black or slate grey would be just fine by me.
