my first sailboat, a 65' irwin was "from" prides crossing..

SV Cordial, Prides Crossing..
i left it that way..
even though i undocumented the boat and state registered it..
so as to avoid florida state sales tax..
imagine paying sales tax on a large house..!
Heh, you mean Spend Francisco, Taxifornia? My city! I love this city but I have to say that the local politicians here are honestly nuts with our money. I think the homeless here are about 1-2 years away from getting BMWs and Rolexes with the option to free sex change operations at the city's expense.
thread drift is happening so this will be IT for this subject..

blame willie brown, the $100k a year guy with $3k suits and $100k ferrari's and other fancy cars..
now that he is gone, hopefully the city will, in time, come back to its senses in time..

i know the city intimately from mt. davidson to cow hollow..
from great highway to hunters point..
from the top of the hill in daly city to my mom's gravesite in the presidio..

but when i left in 1988 i did not plan to return..
a decision i kind of regret and kind of not..

my last house i lived in was in los altos hills and if i were to return i would choose either palo alto or eichler highlands in san mateo..

if my house here keeps going the way it has for the past 3-4 years i should be able to afford a house on the peninsula..

but still, florida has no state income tax, 6% sales tax, low cost of living and i have acreage..

so when reality sets in, i'll probably stay here..

You'll excuse me for hijacking your post Bill, but I enjoy discussing varied places and the memories they incur.

We're out in SF at least twice a year and hope to continue visiting for as long as it remains attached to the mainland.

Among my favorite places there are Cliff House, Fisherman's Wharf during the week, and visiting friends stopping at some of the marinas in the area as they head up and down the coast.

I fondly remember my posting to the Presidio for language training lo these many years ago (1966) and in particular trolling Haight Ashbury for pliant females during the runup to the "Summer of Love".

In memory of your Mom lying at the Presidio, I wanted to mention that as per your instruction I gave mine an extra hug on this Mothers Day past and last weekend again when I saw her!

Regards,

James
