Can't open thinkpad with one hand while holding beer

#1 Post by Kyocera » Wed Dec 21, 2005 7:34 am

I know this has probably been posted a million times, but here goes again. Last night I tried to open my thinkpad with one hand without setting down my beer. Tried switching hands, putting thinkpad on floor and holding with foot, nothing worked. Has anyone come up with a solution to this problem.?

Luckily, with my older-than-dirt (but still holding on pretty strong) 760, the latches protrude just enough and the holes next to them go just deep enough that with the right angle, I can acutally use the can to open the computer.

I drink a beer before opening the ThinkPad, so that way I can set down the empty bottle without feeling like I'm abandoning good alcohol. Then I open the ThinkPad, then I get a second beer while the ThinkPad is booting up! :D :D :D :D :D :D

Hush, my dad has a T30, two latches people.
What I do to open my T43 with one hand is disengage the latch and lift the cover 1-5mm, then swap my hand position to grab the top of the LCD and pull it up.

I know what you mean. I can beerly do it! :P

The real trick is getting the liquid to where it does the least amount of damage. What a paradox!

Hold the beer can/bottle in your mouth, then you'll have both hands free.

ROFL :D

It should be possible to open a T4x holding a beer in one hand, after all there is only one latch. But the hinges on some T4x seem to be extra stiff and require a second hand to hold the base down.

On a T30 probably very difficult to open with beer in hand as there are two latches!

I thought I found an engineering solution to this last night. Holding my beer in one hand and laptop in the other, I yelled, "Woman, open my laptop!" The preliminary results show that this will not only fail six sigma certification but also resulted in a slap across the face.

Actually, after much, much deliberation (and beer too) I deceded that the results are much better if you save the drink for while waiting on Windows to load. It also is nice to have a few extra's handy for whenever you have to wait on scandisk (if you had an improper shutdown with Win9x) and for everytime you get a bluescreen.

with my thinkpad I can unlock one latch at a time, then usually use some inertia to flick open the top. 8)

I can open my T23 one handed. Took some practice though.
