for the person who asked me about my theme, first you need to patch a file to get themes to work in xp. first go here to do that. then go find yourself some visual styles at http://skins.deviantart.com/windows/visualstyle/

This is mine! (I will only put a link because of our dialer friends):
- http://sitemaker.umich.edu/edelrc/files/desktop.jpg (Only a 40kb pic)
- http://sitemaker.umich.edu/edelrc/files/desktop2.jpg (144kb pic)

Very simple page with the IBM wallpaper and times for my two cities: Detroit and Vigo.
(Yes not battery installed... I am trying to save it!)

X220t IPS but but a bit unhappy with it
T60p 2007-93U 1600x1200 IPS (T42p is an overall better machine though. Lack of new IPS Thinkpads keeps me buying these older models!)
T42p 2373-KXU 1600x1200 IPS (The best ever!!)
A20p 2629-6UU 1400x1050 (My first Thinkpad!)

Please don't post pictures in the forum. Some of us are on slow dialup connections, and it makes it difficult to follow the forum. If you want to show a picture of something, upload it to your own webspace somewhere and include a link in your message.

Thanks!

Hey edelrc,
Like your wallpaper. Where did you get it? It's not on my T42.

Got it from IBM.
Go to IBM and in the search field type Wallpaper and then Search.
Teoretically you will go to this page http://www.pc.ibm.com/ww/thinkpad/commu ... nload.html however at this very same time a blankpage comes on... try later on!
There are the Euopean, American/Canadian and Asian versions. Then I custumize the cities times to those I am interested.
If the page does not work later on, ask me for if and I will post it somewhere.

Okay, that's it. This particular thread is "post your thinkpad desktop screenshot" - if you're on slow dialup, why would you even BOTHER to look at this thread? Are you going to look at other people talking about their screenshots?

If you click on a link that says "post your thinkpad desktop screenshot," then you're going to have to expect, surprise surprise, that you're going to be downloading some rather large screenshots in order to follow the thread in the first place. Complaining about the fact that people are posting their screenshots in such a thread is absolutely ridiculous.

On other forums I frequent threads with pics (especially large ones) have titles such as

post your thinkpad desktop screenshot (56k=stay away)
post your thinkpad desktop screenshot (56k=nope sorry)
post your thinkpad desktop screenshot (56k=take a hike)

You get the idea. If the pics are small or if they are linked instead it would look like

post your thinkpad desktop screenshot (56k=come on in)
post your thinkpad desktop screenshot (56k=yes please)
etc.

It's just a suggestion. Take it as you will. :)

The problem is that this poster is apparently surfing via a 14.4 k connection from work - this says to me that she's not interested in a pleasant browsing experience, but that she doesn't want to get caught. If you're not supposed to be web browsing while at work and you're asking people not to include images (in a screenshot thread!) so that you can surf undetected, well, I don't have any sympathy whatsoever.

That's a pretty entertaining scenario you've cooked up there. All wrong, of course, but entertaining, nonetheless.

Oh, I'm not "cooking up" anything here. The bottom line is that you 1) surf from work and don't want to get in trouble, and/or 2) surf away from home on a 14.4 line, open a screenshot thread and then complain about it.
Bottom line: if you surf from work, don't complain about stuff that can get you fired - stop surfing. If you're using a 14.4 connection, don't open a screenshot thread, or browse in text mode - it's really that simple. You're being ridiculous.

Actually, yes, I was personally offended by your use of a vulgar sexual term for the TrackPoint.

Aside from that, the real problem is not the juvenile language. It's that some of us read the forum from work, and browsing web sites and forums that have vulgar language or graphics could get us fired.

Imagine how old this all gets trickling in over a cell phone connection. That's 14.4 by the way.

visual styles uses winxp built in theme engine, so there is next to no resource hit, windowblinds uses a 3rd party program to change the look of windows which uses resources. winstyle, although ive never used it, seems like it allows you to do a few themeing things at once. it does use windows themes, however it seems like it lets you select a windows theme, wmp skin, a font and a wallpaper at the click of a button, hence the "theme manager" idea

I think is visual styles which uses a 3rd party program, so it'll use more resources.
So, when you said resources, are you saying that visual styles will run smoother and faster than windowblinds?

You can get a hacked .dll file (uxtheme.dll, I think) that will allow WinXP to natively support .themes files. Uses no more resources (i.e. memory) than WinXP does itself.

All my backgrounds are 1983 Porsches - I rotate between pictures of each of my cars, which are that year's 911, 928, and 944.

dclee012, please do not refer to any participant of this board as a "nazi" - it is offensive and is not acceptible behavior, here or anywhere else.

Not all of us watch television, or Seinfeld, or find the show or that remark funny. Certainly this Jewish daughter of refugees from the Nazis, whose parents' families were killed by them, does not find it amusing to see anyone called a Nazi.

I do have a sense of humor, but not about the casual use of offensive epithets. There's no need fom them here, we have a long history of being a polite board where everyone is treated with respect. Please honor that history and refrain from name-calling. Thank you.
