been to sacre-coure and the eiffel tower..
and inhaled the 80 octane exhaust by walking the streets of paris..
which exhaust you can see in the sky over paris..
but i had a great time in paris in 1988..

and toronto..!
yikes..!

i thought canada was all mud huts on the tundra and dog sleds..

Listen sunshine, if I drive all the way up to Paris (700 KLMs) it'll be in the VW - yes, I still have the UNO - in fact, parked outside my appartment are TWO UNOs (or is that a DUO...) a RED Turbo Diesel and the now infamous BLACK 60S - not forgetting the VW - anyway, I'll be sure to bring a photo with me...

Of course it would show a lot more consideration if you guys were to come down to Toulouse while you're over this side of the 'pond' - come on chaps, make an effort...

Well, last year i stopped by Bill's on a tour through Florida. Hm, picture of his "dot coms"-Lexus must be somewhere on my harddisk *scratching head*. Oh, I and will be back to Florida (Tallahassee) in October to attend a friend's wedding.

Mais qui sais si je ne vais pas faire une tour de france l'annee prochainne. Donc d'abord je rend visite a des amis pour une outre marriage en Bretagne en juillet

This tale has become apocryphal, but it actually happened to me.

Many moons ago when I was still young and dinosaurs roamed the earth, I was living in Nurnberg and was fortunate enough to be engaged to the daughter of a French vintner.

We drove to her family home for Xmas one year and along the way spent a week in Paris with her sister and her husband. They lived in St. Germain and had a magnificent view of Le Tour Eiffel from the balcony of their apartment.

On the day of our arrival I was standing on the balcony admiring the view as the sun was setting. The husband excused himself as I complimented him on the great view, saying something along the lines of "thanks, but it comes at the cost of performing a small duty every day". He then reached inside the doorway with one hand as he peered intently at the watch on the other. I watched quizzically as he began a slow countdown of 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 and when he reached 1, threw a switch.

The lights on the tower came on!!

I was astonished, at least until I noticed that my fiancee' and her sister were bursting at the seams with restrained laughter. I finally elicited the fact from them, between gales of laughter, that it was a simple matter of throwing the switch at the correct time in the evening to match the automated illumination of the tower.

Although it only lasted a moment or two, I'm embarassed to admit that they got me.

Honor, of course, demanded that I end the engagement!

very nice story. This never happened to me

But I am still young and life can offer many surprises.
Also the world can be very small.
Here is one of my stories (and it also includes a Thinkpad

)
My brother bought a R40 ... suggested by me... and uses it during his now already 1 year lasting trip to china. He is studying chinese language and culture and on the side korean. During a trip to Seoul to visite some friends he also met up with an ex-girlfriend of mine who joined the US Army and got stationed in Korea with her husband.

Now you might ask what part played the Thinkpad ...
my brother of course took some pictures with his digicam and submitted them the next day via wlan connection from a guest house through his R40.

Nine years ago, after a particularly difficult period in my life, I was able to escape, without my children, and spent a week in Paris with a friend.

I was slightly surprised that she had never visited the Eiffel Tower and so we climbed together to the 2nd 'etage' where we stopped to have coffee.

Realising a pressing need, I went to the bar where I asked the barman where were the toilets? The barman, himself Pakistani, was a bit cocky and replied "And if I told you there weren't any?" I understood he was showing off as my accent was pretty atrocious, but I thought this went a little far so I replied "Well, you could always watch me as I p**s over the floor infront of the bar." His supervisor, having listened to the exchange, collapsed with laughter and he, crimson, came round the end of the bar and directed me to where I wanted to go - ok, so I may not have had the accent, but I had the vocabulary !

Don't want to be accused of 'toilet' humour, but I will always remember the day when my daughter, aged 7 at the time, arrived back from infants school and proudly announced she now knew how to say '[censored]' in three languages...my wife and I resisted (and it was hard) creasing up with laughter and demanded to know why this was so - turns out a young german child had recently started at her local French school and obviously (!) these were the things discussed at playtime - aint't Europe great !
