Anyone using Verizon Wireless Internet?

I made a purchase, finally! After much deliberation I opted for the T42p.

I want to utilize wireless internet and was wondering what are you experiances with Verizon's wireless internet.

I have it and like it. It can be a bit "laggy" with some delay between clicking on a link and the response, but it's fast once it's moving - DSL-like. The convenience of it can't be beat if you're always on the move, rather than parked in a Starbucks most of the time.

Note that Unlimited actually has some restrictions, stated in the Customer Agreement. Someone I know from another forum is crying about how he was dropped from the service for downloading a 2GB file.

Man if that's true I'm kind of glad I'm with Cingular. I always thought that Verizon has the better service, but if they cancel you for downloading too much, that's no good.

I currently have Cingular's EDGE service. Quality of service varies somewhat, but in general I am glad I have it. I am looking forward to Cingular's UTMS HSDPA service when it's available in my area.

From what I've heard, someone hogging that much bandwidth slows down the network for everyone else. I think the customer should have been given a warning after that offense, but it's Verizon's call I guess. For ordinary surfing and e-mail checking, there's nothing better or faster.

Plus, a way to get out of your Verizon contract without the early cancellation fee is handy information to have

I've heard about EDGE, but haven't seen evidence of a roll-out in Chicago. Supposedly it's about half as fast as Broadband Access, but also half the price - a compromise I'd be willing to accept.

Did you purchase the PCMCIA card from Verizon?

Heck no, they want an arm, leg, and testicle for one. I snagged one on eBay for about $40 and had them activate it for another $35. That gives me the equivalent of 3 months free service almost.

That is correct. In the Verizon terms of use, it says you are only allowed to surf the web and check emails with it, nothing else. no running servers or download movies or music or what not. it also can't me your promary internet connection

while it claims to be "Unlimited", if you use it excessively (ask verizon what that mean) and pegs their unspoken bandwidth limit, they'll drop you like a rock without warning for breaking the agreement.

on the + side, i guess if they drop you, you probably won't way the ETF. good way to get out of the contract

I forgot to mention - there's another reason I went with an older card (the PC5220). I initially got slower connections because the card kept switching to 1xRRT from EVDO and back. The PC5220 can be set to only accept EVDO signals, for consistent high-speed performance; the newer cards can't, though they get better reception according to the reviews I've read. The downside is that the card stops working if you move outside an EVDO area, but it's simple to switch dual-mode back on.

Vonage is consistently rated as clearly the best Internet phone service in terms of quality and price. However, you may want to take a close look at AT&T which recently surrendered its land line telephone business so it could go totally into DSL and Internet Phone business.

They bought SBC, which owns Yahoo. I would take a look at the new AT&T total package of Cable TV, Broadband Internet & Internet Phone services at one very competitive price.

Unfortunately, I cannot get DSL yet, eventhough my town is surrounded by metropolitan areas that have high competition in DSL, Cable, wireless hot zones, etc. We are captive of a Comcast monopoly and for this reason their customer service staff speaks to us with utmost arrogance and rudeness. No matter. I have convinced dozens of neighbors to go with the Dish.
