I think Mr.Rogers would have been a bit more livid in terms of language; if I recall correctly, they wouldn't let anybody use clip-on microphones on Mr.Rogers because, when he got angry, he would start to curse.

"11 pounds is light you dumb***"
Sorry, what?
"**** batterys, thats not what laptops are for"
Thats the favorite quote of "gaming laptop users"
"Yea, 5 hours from a 13.37 cell battery you loser. Your machine sucks my boxors"
I got this quote when I was saying that XFire kept causing my harddrive not to spin down and some random player decided to say his "13.37" battery pack from Alienware is godly and Dell "pwnz your momma u loser".

I've got over 100 quotes from people that annoy me over stupid issues.

You know I get this stuff from them when I mention "I have a non-mediabook/whatever" to them.
Gamefaqs PC/DOS = Horrible. So if you would like to complain, register, and post for a month or two there. Then you'll be very tolerant of anything here.

Don't forget, that no matter how civil or well meaning people are, someone will probably still get offended some how. There's really nothing that can be done about people who are super sensitive. Case in point - I was once called a racist when I mentioned that I didn't want to work as a greeter for Walmart?!

On the whole though, I would agree that this is a great forum that is well moderated.

Ouch; usually, such "accusations" are more of a reflection of the person making them. In such a case, said person was the one with the stereotypical attitude from the assumption that all the WalMart greeters were of one race and that a personal decision of one employee to not be a greeter was a subtle insult on the part of the greeters as a whole.

It sometimes isn't so much sensitivity, in such cases, as insecurity and fear of acceptance/rejection. Intracranial mind games can manifest themselves in interesting fashion on the Internet, or even in a discussion. ;) :)

Forgive me for digging up an old thread, but I felt a little reminder was in order. I enjoy the community we have here, and I wish to see forum.thinkpads.com prosper.

The originator of this thread - tfflivemb2
tfflivemb2 wrote:I have been browsing through Bill's Forums since back before this new one was created in 2004. Granted I didn't sign up and post until September '05.

I joined and used this forum because of the consideration given by the members and not to mention the plethora of information.

Lately however, sarcasm has become the root of many of the posts here. Sometimes it is used on new users that clearly state "I am new to laptops" or "I am a newbie" for asking questions that "everyone should know" or even for spelling errors. Other times it is used as a catalyst to take these threads onto a whole new level, where the threads end up being closed to cut it off at the pass.

I just ask that we all step back and take a look at what we have here. No other company has had a forum as considerate/professional and informative as this one. I certainly don't want to lose it.

Many thanks to those of you that take the time to read this...I am off my soapbox now. :) :) :)

BillMorrow wrote:2. No trolling. Don't make posts that are inflammatory just to get people riled up. Substance is a key to not being labeled a troll, but substance alone cannot prevent you from being considered a troll. Substance with a dash of personal attacks will get you labeled as a troll.

3. Ad hominem and personal attacks are not permitted. Criticize the ideas, not the people. An ad hominem attack is a logical fallacy describing the attempt to discredit an argument by merely attacking the credibility of the arguer. Excessive flaming will not be tolerated. Users who verbally assault the character or person of other posters on a regular basis will be banned. Moderator's judgment applies here. "You are wrong" is not a personal attack; "You wrong because you are an idiot" is.
