Collecting IBM stuff

#1 Post by draco2527 » Sun Jan 22, 2006 1:28 am

Wanted to know if we have any IBM collectors out there...before they got into the PC arena!

Punch clocks, type writers, M1 carabines?

Any that collect "memorabilia", I got tons of pens, a few hats (My favorite is the "ThinkPad Team 98"), some shirts and SIGNS!

I have a beige 15" dual pitch IBM Correcting Selectric II that I acquired in near-mint condition at a garage sale back in April of last year for $5. Thing works perfectly and I use it for business forms, mailing labels and anything else where my handwriting won't do and my computer would just be too much work. It's a great little (ok, enormous) machine and I'm very glad I managed to catch that steal of a deal.

Well, today, for $5.00 at a local computer store, I bought an old (the user documentation is dated 1987) IBM ProPrinter X24 dot matrix printer. Great shape, once I clean the dust off it'll be almost mint and it came with the extra translucent brown IBM paper tray and a stack of paper. I hooked this thing up to my ThinkPad 760 running Win2k SP4 and to my surprise, Windows 2000 had drivers for it and it turns out that the printer works jsut perfectly. I now have it hooked up to my desktop which has a PIII 1ghz and WinXP SP2.

I also have my circa 1989 IBM Model M keyboard hooked up to my desktop. It's in mint condition and works great, also very clean. I got this keyboard for free because it was so dirty and was missing several keys, caps and springs. I gave it a thorough cleaning and then used a dead busted Model M as a parts donor to repair and refirbish this thing. There's also another working 1993 Model M in my closet that's an RS8000 model with the speaker built into the bottom.

I just got today for the amizingly low price of $5 a nearly pristine condition (after I cleaned all the dirt off) IBM Wheelwriter 3 that works perfectly without a hitch. I also got a spacesaver Model M for $1 today as well.
